So i was going through the services section recently when I stumbled upon this thread. This guy is apparently offering a spamming service.

Quote
💎 Push topics on the Bitcointalk and other forums;
Generating activity in your branch, involving users in the dialogue + creating a positive background around the project. Now 20+ jun.-member accounts are free. If desired, we can attract our partners with higher-ranking accounts. We can also offer automation of some processes on the forum.

Shouldn't people who are openly promoting spam services be marked? I thought spamming was right next to buying/selling of bitcointalk accounts. How are accounts like these aren't marked yet? Or is there something that I am missing?

I love how the sockpuppet accounts are sidestepping the rules and are bumping that thread.  That tells you right there what kind of services they provide.  I think they deserve to be banned for offering that.  Even if they were required to remove the bumping service, you know damn well that they'd still offer it via PM or wherever.

It's amazing how lucrative this ICO shit has become, that people have come up with these business plans to "manage" them like this.

Edit:  Tagging these bumping services isn't my "specialty", so I'll leave it for Lauda or whoever usually tags them.
Last think my "informant" told me was bumping rates around $1000 per week. Spam is big business, and most ICOs are shady money grabbers anyway, so they don't care.
That's insane.

I've seen Lauda tag them before indeed. But I don't think a red tag discourages spammers much.

Check following mentioned site and how the Bounty campaigns will leads in future with annoying bots. They give away one day trial also. Is there any way to stop these kind of illegal sites? They even saying that they can solved the captcha too.

Red tags do nothing to those that spam, and isn't what the trust system was intended to do. Although, even if you did tag them they don't care about the reputation of the account, and only care about bumping the thread.

Well, then how about taking the next step and start banning their ip's and accounts? At least that will hinder their progress and reduce the spam. I know it won't be an easy task but we have to start somewhere...

Most pf them probably use TOR or VPN’s so ip bans won’t stop them. I think we just have to accept there will be spammers & shit posters here. I just skip past reading those type of threads, works for me.

You can't post in Bitcointalk forums if you use TOR.
They should just ban their accounts, imho.

That's not true. It can be difficult to get through the captcha, but it is possible.

On a related subject: shouldn't Bitcointalk have a .onion address? I can't really find anything about it, DeepOnion spam keeps popping up in my search.

Though tagging them won't really make a difference as their only motive is to post shit on the threads to bump them and get paid for it, but letting them roam completely free even after knowing what they are doing would be awful IMO.
There should probably be some other implementations to stop such kind of things as the previous efforts for a spamless forum has failed in stopping such practices.

Sometimes they are posting their services in their accounts that are really meant to be tag, it is like they are sacrificing it as the pay off for promoting the bumping service is much bigger. If what LoyceV said is true 1000$ per week can easily cover those tagged accounts with some newly bought ones. Can making a 24 hour bump limit instead solve the problem? For example even if you post and post in the thread it won't be bump until the 24 hour cycle is not yet done. I think this can realistically remove a lot of spam coming from bump services.

I've suggested something similar before: Newbies or even Jr. Members shouldn't be able to bump a thread. That makes the bumping service useless, as they can't easily create thousands of higher ranked accounts.

Theymos opted to disable deleting posts within 24 hours on certain boards. Now the spam stays, and can be reported.

If I look at Show unread posts since last visit., I see 13 posts bumped in 10 seconds. Most of them are either airdrop spam or "nice project" posts.

Bump spamming doesn't appear to be a serious offense here. I've reported this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4547440 (and I'm sure others did too, there was a thread in Meta) and it's still unhandled, going strong. It's an airdrop requiring participants to bump the ANN thread, which is essentially the same thing as a bump service except without a middleman service provider.

Perhaps there should be better-defined rules on what is considered illegal bumping and what the consequences should be. Trashcanning the whole thread would be awesome but prone to abuse.

The problem here is even if the post is not deleted the thread still bumps back up which is still another point for their service. Your idea is pretty good  but it does not remove other higher ranking accounts that can be included in their bumping service, who knows but they might have a lot of Member and above ranks at their disposal for this kinds of bumping service, they also have the option to improve their posts just to bump the thread.

Correct. It stopped the accounts that post and delete the same post over and over again, using 30 accounts per thread. Now the generic useless sentences spam is still active.

Thanks to the Merit system, they'll eventually run out of Member accounts, no matter how many accounts they have. Newbies and Jr. Members on the other hand can be created for free, thousands per day.

Is this a problem? "involving users in the dialogue + creating a positive background around the project". Isn't this good for the forum? Continuing dialogue and replying?

Random spam and bumping the topics is bad. Shouldn't the "verifying" processes used in bounty topics be stopped as well? Having to comment a random bit of information every time you submit the form or other ways of bumping the topic.

If it's fake, and done as a requirement for bumping a topic or getting rewards then no. I'm much more interested in genuine discussions than ones which are faked, and paid for. Its the reason why so many people dislike advertisements, and paid reviews. It paints a misleading image of the service/project/product.

yeah, it is. if your project can't generate hype of its own then it isn't worth investing in. Just like Welsh said it creates a fake perception of hype/interest in the project.
