I'm not one who would invest in precious metals, but I have noticed that a good amount of the older generations are pretty keen in investing in these metals. They see it as a way to bet against the market, and a security that will always be safe -- even in the times of a market downturn/country failure as a whole.

I personally wouldn't even want to buy these metals in those events, as I don't see the reason to. I'd rather invest in securities that go up when the market shits itself (Payroll lending companies and so on and so forth)

Does anyone here know the reason behind people loving precious metals?

The older people tend to invest in those metals such as diamond and gold because they are grew up in the generation whereas they know that those precious metals acquired a greater value than anything. They see it as a good fortune that will help them be rich. Cryptocurrency is totally new for their world to accept so they are not comfortable in investing in here. Also, mostly of older people are not technology literate.

Gold and silver investment is low risk, high valued investing. It is easy to invest, you can find it everywhere and it has global value.

Do not forget about the traditions as well. For hundreds (even thousands!) of years their ancestors used to invest in gold and silver as these metals do not know what it is - THE TIME. Now, they simply do not trust v the virtual stuff.

Cryptocurrency is the money of the digital age and this may be a bit difficult for old people to believe and comprehend. An old person may not even be able to manage cryptocurrency wallet effectively and become vulnerable to scam. Old people have been used to gold and silver investment from ages.

In my opinion, investment in gold and silver is more stable and clear, where the value of earnings is generally greater than deposits in banks. if this is more profitable than deposit, why not do it with a good level of security and profit. Having a diverse portfolio is a good idea, especially if you look forward and see less time to produce and more timeneed to budget somehow.this is like a bank stock. This will vary, but most likely will remain stable in times of crisis .

Because it is more reliable and stable, but brings less income, but do not forget that no one wants to work with risks, because gold and silver give the minimum risks that attract investors. If the sums of investors are huge, then it is possible to earn good profit from investing in gold. Investments in the cryptocurrency are still not all of interest and therefore people choose other reliable ways to multiply their money.

Simply because gold has a long hostory (the longest), of stability. Even in times of war gold was seeked and pretty stabile. All the bank and countries have gold reserves and the fact that you invest in gold mean that you still have that money in the future. If there's a price inflation the gold is still gold. You can't buy the same ammount of food from you could have 10 years ago with 1000$ but you can still buy almost the same things (more or less) if you would have bought 1000$ worth of gold 10 years ago and sell it now.

In my opinion they want to be safe with their money, and think that gold is safer. They are not interested in technological development because they think it looks virtual and complex.
I think that the main reason is that bitcoin is still very new for them and still they do not have enough knowledge about it. I hope as soon as they will get knowledge about bitcoin and other crypto currencies they will surely start taking interest there, because in current time crypto currencies are more profitable than gold and silver.

They probably know what you don't know?
Before people begin to make it look like old people things, don't forget they are more like cryptocurreny.

I'd rather invest in long lasting foods though. I don't know why people don't encourage this sort of investment. Maybe due to the moral aspect? Or it could cause lots of volatility in the price of the foods?
Precious metals won't really serve any useful purpose in disaster areas. Foods that last long (5yrs minimum),  are lightweight, well dried, filling and nutritious, will do.

Yes crypto currencies are  very new for them, and something different from gold and other precious stones or elements,  they mostly believe of physical items and therefore they do not put any trust on bitcoin and any other crypto currencies, I think that it will take some more time to get their confident.

I think people of the older generation will always choose precious metals. They have measurable value for them. They can feel something in their hands that is valuable and gives them a sense of security. They differ from people brought up in times where digital technology dominates.

People of the older generation of precious metals are attracted by their stability. And I'm not against this investment, but only partially, the digital currency has a great potential for development!

Older people are pattern from their ancestors that if their older ancestors have money ,they immediately buy golds or silver for future use, that is for now older people will buy immediate gold or silver.

In terms of science, gold and silver are special metals that are not affected by the majority of chemicals but are very soft, malleable, easy to thin and have a bright yellow color. Because of this extremely special feature, gold and silver are very popular for jewelry. Because of the limited exposure to chemicals, gold and silver retain its value as well as its shimmering pure color. Since then, gold and silver have always had strong symbolic meanings that are closely linked to the highest values in societies. Even if any currency devalues, gold and silver always hold the highest value. Therefore, gold and silver are always seen as symbols of power and wealth.

I will not invest in something i have no or little knowledge of its outcome. Most older people have very little knowledge about cryptocurrency and what they know is the metals so it becomes rare for them to invest.

Most older people really dont understand bitcoin.  I tried to explain it to my older relatives but they couldn't see why it was worth so much, they prefer to invest in a physical item like gold or silver.

My parents prefer real estate and gold over the stock market and crypto. They do have a bunch of various stocks just to diversify and have zero crypto. It’s too speculative according to my dad and my mom had no clue haha.

the reason behind of older generation of investing gold/ silver is they want a regular income and they do not want to take risk at that age. therefore gold and silver is good option in that case. likewise cryptocurrency is a risky business and having high returns .

Of course gold and silver is very good option its good to have 50% of our money on them and rest on cryptocurrencies (propably some gems are also good but I dont know this topic)

There is no doubt that a lot of older people in different countries is still prefer to invest in gold/silver because they know that it is more trusted and the value of both gold and silver is more stable compare on the value of all crypto.
