The other day I read an article about how the next fork scam collected a good amount and the team was washed away in an unknown direction. Today I want to talk about this incident and give some advice to the newcomers.
Scammers with the project "Ethereum Emerald", invented their own fork for "Ethereum Classic", on the block 6100 000, which was due on July 13. The developers promised "instant payments and no commissions". The coins of the network were called "ETE", as well as the mining was planned. At the time of launch, they promised the coin "ETE" in a ratio of 1 to 1 with "ETC". The authors of the project decided to organize the sale of coins. Where they collected not a bad amount based on the fact that they were selling candy wrappers, they collected 47 ETH and 2150 ETC, which was evident from the conclusion from those purses where the money of investors was transferred. In addition to investors, the "EMERALD" purse became a victim of this situation, which has nothing to do with the project "ETNERIUM EMERALD". Also, according to some information, users investigations were known that scammers were in Russia (this is not exact). According to the official statement, Ethereum Classic wrote in their twitter that they did not plan any forks on these dates, but unfortunately this did not stop investors.
What I would like to learn from this sad story. There are a lot of such kinds of fraud now. Scammers invent different plans, they do everything to pull out any penny from our pocket, then disappear in an unknown direction leaving only candy wrappers in purses. People thoughtlessly believed in this project, I hope they got a durable life experience. I want to say this in turn:
when you see another stupid fork from unknown people, please contact the team of the original project, ask them if they plan forks in the next few days, months.
Always visit this forum, ask questions to more experienced users, there are basic materials about how not to fall for the tricks of scammers. There are lists of scam projects that are infinitely updated.
Well, in the end, I would like to convey to some users what fork is and why it happens. Fork is a phenomenon in a system in which one large chain branches into two, and after separation they continue to work independently of each other. Such a phenomenon occurs for example when the development team does not come to the same solution, then one part remains working on the product, the second leaves copying the main code of the coin making its changes. In such cases, official statements are usually made on social networks and sites.
There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.
