Does anyone know if this is possible? I mean, I'd think it would be..
My local walmart has a few discounted Visiontek X1300s and am curious if they can be mined off of.
The card is PCI and has 256mb on board memory. Looking at the list I didn't see anything pertaining to this card as I think that list is for PCIE. I'm just looking to do a little mining and anything's better then .0001btc off my cpu lol. If I can't mine off that, anyone have any suggestions that won't bust my wallet?

I'm kinda surprised that with nearly 600 post you don't have a clue of the hardware needed for mining.
PS : It's not the slot that mine it's the card.

I'd rather not devulge why I have 500+ posts without making myself look like an idiot.
Point being, I'm getting back into mining since I have a job now, so I went and bid on a 5830.
I'm not looking to hash over 1 mh/s so the 5830 will be perfect for my needs.
I thought I'd be able to get something out of the pci cards I found but I guess not so I'll let em collect dust.
It'll be on Wal-Mart since they overpriced em anyhow.

That 5830 Electrogeek suggested will work great and i'm getting it at a good price.

Mining on CPU was ridiculous many months ago.

i ment gh/s not mh/s but that's what came out.
I thought it was fesible to try and mine off a pci card but what do i know(I've only been building and tearing these things apart the last 15 years).
I posted my question here because I was curious. It was already confirmed that it's not possible, so let's move on shall we?

Just get a PCI to PCI-E convertor, get something on the Bitcoin mining hardware list, even a 5770 is much better than any CPU and cheap at Ebay or even here where you can find some good priced graphic cards for sale.

over 1000 posts here and did not know you could do this. i can use my 6990s on a pci if i get the right adapter??? w00t! You would need the aforementioned adapter, but then you MUST ALSO have a powered PCIe riser cable. PCI provides 25 watts, and PCIe provides 75 watts - to be safe you need to make sure that monster card is getting its full 75 watts and not burning your adapter out. |

over 1000 posts here and did not know you could do this. i can use my 6990s on a pci if i get the right adapter??? w00t! Be wary that these pci to pci-e adapters come at around $25/each. They're great if you're into super high density miners, but like the post said above me, it would be recommended to use a powered PCI-E ribbon cable to avoid burning out any power circuitry, either on the adapter, or on the mainboard itself if you're cramming as many gpu's onto a board as you can, especially when using high-powered cards. Personally, I've been using a 5830 on one, overclocked to 1045/330 with +0.012v and haven't had any problems yet, but its not that strong of a card either compared to dual gpu cards. |

better to spend a 100 bucks and get a msi gd70. it has 5 slots and an onboard power button for caseless rigs.

it should also be noted that those pci->pcie cards dont work on every system. I just bought some, and when I try to use them on an ASUS P8H67 the system doesnt even boot up, however they do work fine on that old crappy PIV netburst system with a Dell-branded Intel Mobo.
So if anyone's going to order, order one first to see if it works, then order all the others.
Oh, and definitely use a powered pci-e riser. I had a pal who burned out 3 slots on his mainboard, now he knows better. Lucky him, his cards survived.

I use some of them a long time without problems (inclusive pcie riser with molex). So I have an Gigabyte 770MA with 3 pcie and 4 pci running with 7 cards (8 gpu, one of them is a 5970) without problems.
If someone need some extenders or risers you can buy them from me, I am a small dealer from germany.
