With yesterday massive spam from Yobit-related spam bots (

Spamming service massively. Please nuke!), I think it is good time to make this thread lively back to discussion. Will we have reporter badges?
If yes, which ones should be selected?

Usually, Pacman will run from the ghosts in their colors.
Then, for 300 good reports, you'll get Pacman with one ghost ... for 5000 good reports Pacman with all four ghosts.

And you'll have to have Pacman on the right side of the ghosts (he's running from them, right?)

And when you've reported anytime within the last 24 hours, your ghosts will turn blue, and Pacman will appear on the left side, chasing them

While the above is a real concern, there are also many people who put in a lot of effort into reporting posts without the expectation of receiving any personal benefit. I think it is time to give some kind of recognization to these people. In order to reduce the potential for people reporting their own alts' posts, one option might be to add additional hidden criteria for the various badges, such as posts or threads originally to be in a sufficiently diverse number of subs, or that the result of a report is that the post or thread is sufficiently diverse outcome of removing the post/thread, moving the thread, or editing the post.

Seeing how everything that can be abused here gets abused, I have no doubts that would happen, no matter how ridiculous just the though of it doing looks now.

In order to reduce the potential for people reporting their own alts' posts, one option might be to add additional hidden criteria for the various badges, such as posts or threads originally to be in a sufficiently diverse number of subs, or that the result of a report is that the post or thread is sufficiently diverse outcome of removing the post/thread, moving the thread, or editing the post.

Or maybe make it one time thing, just check whoever has xyz amount of good reports and give badges. And then maybe repeat it in 5-10 years, without any announcement of doing so. Some RNG factor like that might discourage those wanting to abuse it.

There are more than enough bad posts on the forum already, finding them must be faster than creating bad posts for the sole purpose of reporting them.

I think it is time to give some kind of recognization to these people.

Sorry for the wait, when I went to implement this it ended up being quite a bit more of a can of worms than I originally thought because of opting out, preventing certain report-count-padding strategies, etc. It's still on my to-do list, but there are several things above it.

Considering the "can of worms" it was already, I don't think adding more criteria is going to make the introduction of reporter badges more likely.

You don't need sock puppets - Just be a part of a "gang" or wear a "gangs" colours, or gee, I dunno base ball cap or avatar, and your reports will be auto approved without any checks or balances.

Given there is no checks nore balances on the reporting of others' posts', then it can be taken as given the system is flawed and badges are not warranted.

theymos would be wise to implement a 3+3 system (three reports plus three admin/mods agreeing (and the admin/mods can't report to enable each-other's reports to be approved either))

It would likely become quite obvious to mods fairly quickly if certain users were just reporting the posts by the same other users. As other's have said, it would be much quicker and easier just to report the thousand of other shitposts that are already here without having to create more just to boost your report count. I'm not sure what privileges the badges would come with but it probably wouldn't be worth the effort and the amount of people abusing it would be minimal and probably compared with how many people there are abusing the merit system as opposed to using it legitimately.

Probably best, if they didn't actually come with any privileges, and were just a visual thing. We know gamification works, as its been implemented in many other industries. I've mentioned about Universities using it in the past for their students. So, it doesn't need to come with an incentive other than the social status of displaying it on your profile.

Although, those that have earned a badge could get a reduction in their reporting cooldown depending on the level of reports they've reached. That would probably make sense without actually causing many issues at all.

If theymos is worried about clutter, maybe only allow a certain amount of badges per user to be displayed at one time. Either randomly or selected by the user. Maybe, only display it on their profile page, and not actually within threads.

Don't need a sock puppet or join the gang. if you have free time, you can check all child on the Marketplace board. there are a lot of undelete bump. Just report it as other member does, I really sure you will get over 1000 reports/daily with good. I know that because I ever did.
