How do alt coin developers make money on their coin?

I think this question needs to be answered as a lot of us don't know how they make money from creating a coin without premining it.

Even if they don't premine it, they instamine it. One hand clicks on the [ANN] thread "submit" button, the other starts the mining rigs.    It typically takes a while and progressively for other people to react and move their hashpower to the coin

Instamine is probably the only way they make money otherwise I guess its just a project to them.
