Lets turn the moon into a giant world clock!

I was thinking that this could be done with a simple laser, from a satellite/satellites, orbiting the moon itself. (For the dark-spot.)

For the light spot, simple shadow-casting by solar-automated sheets of plywood/solar-panels would suffice for hours and minutes represented as numbers like a digital watch. (Since the same side of the moon always faces the earth, it would only have to be adjusted once every few hundred years as the moon slowly rotates away.)

I figure it would also have to be mirrored-time (digital representation), so those below the equator would not see it upside-down. GMT time, for simplicity.

Something to compliment my sun-dial, for the night-time, when my sun-dial is useless.

Any thoughts?

Oh and ditch this whole time-zone crap... Just one time, all the time... no daylight savings. Get up earlier, why burden us all with time-zones and DST adjustments twice a year. "Noon" and "Midnight" have been irrelevant since time was invented. It has no relevance anymore.

Oh, and lets paint the surface green or blue, to match the earth... I am tired of looking at that ugly grey color!

You'll never be able to say... Sorry I was late, I didn't know what time it was... (At night)

Don't worry, this will not hurt watch sales. (People still buy those things?)

Oh, the "atomic clock" signal that feeds GPS would be used for keeping it correct. No winding involved, or batteries to replace.

Which thing... all of them?

Why would it never happen?

I am trying to create moon-jobs here... Give us a reason to go back up there and play...

They said the triple-baconater at Wendy's would never happen.. and it did! Now I am hungry...

What's the estimated cost price of your project in BTC?

Have you made a sheet yet to calculate that?

I would love to see a moon clock.  Which timezone will it be linked to?
It takes so much energy to take out my phone every 30 sec and check the clock.
This would be very energy sufficient. Although looking up can also be exhausting.

Hmm... I project about 10 BTC, by the time the project is ready to launch... BTC should be about $850,000/BTC at that time.

Time-zone will be GMT 0:00 since we will also be getting rid of useless time-zones, and thus just become one world-time. (Never have to adjust your watch or ask what is your GMT offset? -5 +10... and  Are you in DST?)

You have a phone that fits in your pocket... OMG, and it has time... What will they think of next... How much does that watch cost you to buy and run every year? This will be free to use, no charge, once built. Tongue

Wait, if you know 30-seconds passed... why would you take out your phone again? Is your short-term memory that short, and your ability to add 30-seconds to the last time you checked, that bad? This will be a great advantage to you... You can save your short memory for things like, remembering to breath, or practicing that math...

Do you not look down at your watch/phone... why would looking up be any harder? The moon isn't directly above you, 95% of the time. If you have trouble finding it, there might just be a cloud in the way, or it is flying over Japan at that time... Use your watch/phone for those times.

P.S. This was intended to be stupidly humorous, not actually a real thing to do.

Ok maybe we should go up there in my potato spaceship and draw the clock on the moon with some pens and then we just tilt our heads and the clock moves sounds good to me.

It's a nice idea but too complex because of all the times zone, I don't know if it even possible to display correct time for everyone. Then again if it was that easy to make a clock out of it, I think someone would have used it as advertising space by now, it would certainly pay off.

It wouldn't be allowed any way and you would probably get into big trouble with the government for doing it would be a funny idea for someone to place a model of a guy sitting on a chair on the moon.

Then there really is a man on the moon!

Once you have established a moon colony you can also make an earth clock for the people on the moon.
