Will they? Have you actually done this market research or are you just assuming they'll say that? Nobody I know would say this. What's app is just a text service, it can't offer 90% of what Facebook does.
forget what i say.. just try on your own ask 10 frnds who use both the services whatsapp and fb, and then tell me the reactions .. the main reason why whatsapp is better then fb in opinion of many users because whatsapp keeps you in touch with only those people who really hold some kind of value in your life, and if you telling me whats app can't offer 90% of what fb does, you are wrong, absolutely wrong..! just tell me what 90% fb does nd WA don't Seriously? What's app is a text messaging service and that's pretty much it. And I already know the opinion of my friends. You may be tired of Facebook, but that doesn't mean everybody else is. They both serve their purpose but Facebook smothers what's app in features as it's a social network site, not just a messaging service, which you can do on Facebook too. If you want to just stay in contact with your close friends you can do that on Facebook any way.

I don't really see any reason to worry about privacy, security, or why you should stop using WhatsApp if you already do (though I've never used it, and I think this thread is the first I've heard of it). Further centralization of already-centralized data stores is pointless from a privacy-invasion perspective. You can just as easily demand information out of Facebook as WhatsApp. Outside that, you should assume backdoors are in every product until it's proven otherwise. 19 billion for an app . Why couldn't they just create their own and integrate it somehow with Facebook and save themselves a lot of money? Intellectual property rights are a bitch.

Acquiring the competition for the sake of saving your own ass on losing out the member base seems the logical decision, but the amount is monstrous. Remember Microsoft acquiring Nokia's handset division? That was something like only 7.5 Billion dollars. And Nokia is a whale.

Here are more details.
Facebook said yesterday it’s paying $12 billion in stock, $4 billion in cash and $3 billion in restricted shares for WhatsApp, which lets users send messages through its services on mobile devices with different operating systems. WhatsApp is adding 1 million users daily, and Facebook Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg said he expects the service to reach more than 1 billion people in the next few years, escalating the challenges to competing Asia-based services.
So once it's will reach 1 Billion users,FB will get 1 Billion $ Every year

1 Million users a day is nuts. Anyone know how many people sign up to Facebook daily now?

WeChat is a WhatsApp look-alike and work-alike messaging app. Popular in China more than WhatsApp probably because it got in first? Just like WhatsApp is more popular in India because it got in first.

I'll take a look at wechat but is it a clone of whatsapp or does it have different features?
