You should be fine[1][2][3] even though it's not suggested. Think of HWs as an investment really, I would still recommend buying a brand new one from the official website.

i would never ever buy a used hardware wallet.... you never know what the guy who owned it before has made with it. when i look at your thread you are also not sure if you are safe now or not. why the fuck you have bought it and than you are asking about safety? jeeez you wanna safe you money with a hardware wallet and than you are to stingy to buy a new one?

The Trezor T has an irreplaceable bootloader that verifies the integrity of the firmware installed. You should be fine.

I would never take the risk with a second hand wallet. Even if you think you can trust the person selling it to you, are you 100% sure that they haven't been scammed and are inadvertently selling you a fake or tampered wallet?

There have been reports from Trezor themselves about counterfeit Trezor One devices being seen which will steal a users coins: https://blog.trezor.io/psa-non-genuine-trezor-devices-979b64e359a7. Although there is no mention of counterfeit Trezor T devices, I don't think it's worth the risk.

I think that buying a supported hardware wallet was not a good idea. You bought it to protect your funds, but in the end you will not be calm because you are not sure of their safety. So you better buy a new wallet from the official website.

Why not bought a new wallet where you can find more secured, looks more good and nothing to worry about security. Well, base on what you did you should be fine since you generate a new private keys but I’m not sure if its a legit wallet or not.

If you reset device and get new seed we can say that you are 99% sure that nothing bad will happen just because it is second hand device. But since it is not new device which comes directly from the manufacturer there is always at least a little doubt that something may not be as it should be.

When it comes to security of cryptocurrency even 1% chance that it may come to an undesirable event is too much, since this is hardware wallet and not crypto exchange where users have no choice but to risk much more. It's a good decision to buy brand new device, few bucks cheaper used device is just not worth it.

Now it should be safe to use, but when you have used hardware wallet there will be no guarantees that your coins are 100% safe. Maybe you can save few bucks buy buying used but it's not worth to risk, because you later may have to "pay" much bigger price if your BTC will be stolen. It's not about you OP, but there is good fraze in my language - "greedy pays twice"

Has there been cases of this though?  I know with nano ledger s, there was a case but that seller or person who did put a preset pin.  Thus if you reset it, there would been no issue.  But has there been cases of this whether trezor or ledger nano?

AFAIK there was never an issue with the hardware wallet being modified, tampered, etc. It was always the case of someone using a pre-created seed that came in the box (which the hacker has access to it). Basically just a social engineering attack.

Not sure I would have bought a 2nd one hand myself... but I'm unaware of any (unpatched) hacks involving devices that were still compromised following a full wipe and re-initialisation. So simply wiping the device, updating to the latest firmware etc and creating a few new seeds to check that it is creating a different seed every time you initialise it should give you 99% confidence that it's fine.

As long as you're aware of the unpatchable vulnerability with all Trezor wallets (including the T). So, make sure you use a passphrase!

If money was an issue this would be my take;  I would rather have a brand new Trezor 1 than a second hand Trezor T.  Just my take.  I have both and for many years they have performed flawlessly!  You can always generate a "watching wallet" using the MPK's from the Trezor and numerous software products.  No person can move coins using a watching wallet (no private keys exist there) so you can monitor safely without carrying your device around.  Works for me.

I used to have a Legder Nano S, but I sold it due to problems with the old Chrome app. I got a free Trezor One for helping with their wallet translation and I pre-ordered Trezor T which I have had for about 1,5 year. Trezor One is a good choice if you don't use many altcoins. Trezor T is a great device, but I am considering getting a Nano X because it is more portable. Trezor is vulnerable to this.
