Quote
"PLEASE STAND BY..."

"ATTENTION: PREPARING TO START MINER"

"TO GRACIOUSLY TERMINATE MINER, PRESS Ctrl + C while this window is selected
"then type "y" and press enter"

"ATTENTION: MINER WILL NOW START"
[2011-10-11 21:23:12] HTTP request failed: couldn't connect to host
[2011-10-11 21:23:12] json_rpc_call failed, retry after 30 seconds

I'm getting this error consistently now, the miner just won't start.
What's wrong? How can I diagnose?

For comparison, mining Litecoin on testnet works perfectly.

Make sure your config in Tenebrix has the line "server=1".

If your pool was Simplecoin they were offline for sometime from what I have gathered. If it is an issue concerning your firewall or router blocking the connection you should restart your computer usually helps.

I've noticed this error when the wallet itself doesn't have any connections.

Tenebrix wallet was closed. Is it a requirement to have it or the daemon open while mining?

You need to have a client open unless you're planning on pool mining.
