Being a multi-billion dollar company that's proven to be pretty cunning, does anyone know if they have a crypto trading desk/s?  With the amount of mining power they possess, it wouldn't be that difficult to prioritize one coin over the other, and dump money to trigger cascades of protections.

It would not surprise me in the slightest if they had a pump and dump team with their available captital.

Well ... I personally think that this is extremely unlikely, but there may be such an option.
In the fact that there is a group of people who are able to influence the market, I personally have no doubt, but I do not think that these are people under someone's leadership. These people have their own interests ... and they have a lot of money, hence it is unlikely that they obey someone and make a moniple

I definitely think that they are part of the whale manipulation club, if the price goes too low then their business will collapse. They should at least help to prop up the prices

It looks like you don't know what "pump and dump" means. Read this:

What is 'Pump And Dump'

Pump and dump is a scheme that attempts to boost the price of a stock through recommendations based on false, misleading or greatly exaggerated statements. The perpetrators of this scheme, who already have an established position in the company's stock, sell their positions after the hype has led to a higher share price.

Don't know about a dedicated p&d team but I think it's likely they have partaken in manipulative trades.

The pump doesn't have to involve shilling if you got billions to cause bullish action by purchasing an asset, artificially decreasing supply and increasing demand.

In other words: semantics.

That's not pump and dump. That's something else.

Also, keep in mind that trying to manipulate a market by buying large amounts is very risky. If you buy a huge amount, you pay the higher price, and you only make money if the price continues to rise. If the price doesn't continue rising, you will lose money when you sell your huge position.

it is a possibility considering they are involved with a lot of altcoins, and now even involved with ETH mining with their brand new ASICs and considering how easy it is to pump and dump altcoins.

on the other hand, the question is do they really need to do something like that?
they have been making a lot of money mining bitcoin and from their pool, a lot of money selling ASICs and finally they made a ridiculous amount of money when they created their very own altcoin called BCH.  specially when they manipulated its difficulty so that they could mine 1000+ blocks per day before anybody else even thought about switching. and if that wasn't enough they are even forking BCH into more coins to multiply their coins even more.

They could be doing that. They already found hole in mining to allow them beign ahead of competition which was not moral thing to do.
They are also known from shady actions, but bitcoin is secure because if anyone can pump&dump then there will be teams of pumps&dumbs fighting each other and destroying one another Smiley, simple solution in global market regulating itself.

There is no question about this, because it is clear that big companies Bitmain must have teams for pumping and dumping, this sounds cunning, but this is the trick of big companies to make a profit, obviously we must follow them and not fight the flow.

I do not think they will profit more showing that the product they mine is too volatile and could be easily manipulated. They will profit more just mining and selling at the best price possible. When the price goes up they profit more. But I think they could pump BCH buying more with the BTC they mine.

As bitmain was the first company of ASIC miner sellers, they might be among one of the pump and dump groups.
Not only bitmain but other major companies holding huge amount of bitcoins are doing pumps and dumps occassionally.
I believe if all these bigger amount of coin holders will start pumping simultaneously, we could see the price surging abover $50k

As big as Bitmain is, it's not unlikely they have a dedicated market manipulation team.

you can no longer pump and dump bitcoin anymore. the market has grown so much bigger with the number of exchanges and number of investors in it that no matter how big you are, you won't be able to pump and dump it. you can certainly influence the price if you are a whale and manipulate it but pump and dump is very different.

what they can do and still be profitable is to pump and dump altcoins. that has a lot lower risk since they are smaller and they are already pump and dumps so they have their work cut out for them.

They should, but that doesn't mean that they will help prop up the prices.

Hello,

Perhaps not a real pump and dump team like we know but with their vision and purpose associated with their power and weight in the system they surely have people that working on optimising the profit while using market manipulation.
