It always looks the same. Somebody contacts you or you see an ad that looks interesting. You read the message and it's all fine and promising, until at some point it says: send money, give money, lend money. It should always light up that red light. They want you to deposit money, they want to have control over your funds, they give you no insurance, no escrow, you don't know them! If you're pressing that "send" button that leads to the loss of control over your funds you better know everything about the other guy. If someone starts telling you this whole long interesting story and then you see this well known phrase "here's my address" you know what to do. Wink

Exactly! It obvious to those of use who have been around crypto for a while. I often wonder how many newbies fall victim to these scams.

I have to admit that I was a victim as well with the Scam 1 stunt. Was still a newbie back then, someone whisper to me to join under him (referrals). Well in the beginning it was really paying that's why I just rolled my money and counting the days in the calendar in which I can withdraw everyday. Then the site suddenly goes offline and then I realized that I was scam. It was really a hard and expensive lesson to learn. And I promise I will never fall for this trap again. Just like they say "If it seems too good to be true, it probably is".

@StrikingAdvantage, if there are people gullible enough to join a HYIP or just fall for the scams, those criminals will just evolved and re-invest themselves. Still up to us not to be greedy so as not to be another statistics.

Another way to be scammed by investing in cloud mining Cheesy, yes early investors can earn profits, as long as there are new investors/victims send their funds to cloud mining. Especially at the current difficulty which increases gradually over time, do not trust any cloud mining offers profit in a long-term, it just a promise that can't be fulfilled.
Like the article mentioned; too good to be true

Yeah, it's always too good to be true. A lot of people don't actually notice once they've passed the point of no return, that being the money leaving the wallet, that they're not actually getting anything in the end. That's why escrows are so important. We can never really trust someone completely unless there is a central mediator to hold the rulebook. Without some kind of power in the middle, either party can easily stand up and walk away without informing the other, without leaving a trace. Especially in the digital age.

So it is about common sense, like mentioned above. You need to understand how something must come in return for your payment.

I'd say that's the first and biggest red flag: if you are being approached by a stranger with some offer, then there's like 99.99999% chance it's a scam. There are many methods of earning money without working hard, but you have to discover them on their own, and people who know them rarely talk about them, especially with strangers. Even Bitcoin in the early days wasn't something that was advertised and talked about by the media.

This is so weird that people still fall for these scams, they have been around so long. Also in Telegram every single group has multiple warnings about this.
But i suppose that people who are new to this space and are naive can fall for these kind of scams.

I think that's exactly it. The scams are obvious once you've been involved in crypt for a bit but when new people get interested they are potential victims, so sharing this kind of information among the community is important.

Scam 1

Consider yourself to be lucky yet you do still able to receive your 0.005 rather than losing it all which is common among HYIP sites. They do normally run for few days or even just 24 hours if they accumulate enough money from crypto greedy noobs out there.

Scam 2

If you did just hold your 2 ETH then you might have some good amounts rather than losing that 1 ETH because you do easily fooled by some people claimed to have investment team.
Anyone can claim and would scam you easily just using verbal.

On general speaking, even our common sense would able to spot out on things that would really be possibly a scam.

Do not forget about the "Farm" games that are doing the rounds. You are asked to breed with some kind of virtual farm

animal {These scammers change the type of farming animal with every new site} and then you buy feed and better animals

with your own money. The profits is supposed to come from the off-spring of these animals or the eggs or milk that these

animals produce. The problem is, they are buying the produce from the virtual farmers with the money that people spend on

the virtual add-ons and when this runs out and they made enough money, they simply close the site. Later a new version

of this will pop up with some other type of animal.  Roll Eyes

I remember my first days in the crypto world, I was cheated several times, the first time someone sent me an email saying that he was dying and that if I did not help him I would be responsible for his death, I confess that at the time I panicked and sent some money, it was a very bad experience. then I was fooled by a fake cloud mining website. I paid the contract thinking that I was even investing in a cloud mining site, but the truth is that it was just a hyip site and lost 0.003 btc. then I was cheated on another gaming site, this time it was a fake website and I was stolen 0.02 btc.
