I noticed several ICOs have the same users having conversations with each other - quoting the entire conversation. It makes it quite easy to identify the other shills and other ICOs that use those same shills.

When it comes to reporting - I'm not sure which rules they have broken. It appears to be related to bountyhive. https://bountyhive.io/#your-roadmap.

This user is a classic example: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2080249;sa=showPosts

Just some of the members that consistently participate in that:

I also think ColorlessK is the co-founder of bountyhive.io and no surprise, look at his Merit stats. That tells the story Cheesy. He got all the Merits from last 120 days only for the ANN threads. I called this is another way of Merit abuse.

BTW who is the other one?

Actually it's not really a Merit abuse. There are some people that instead of giving out their Merit to constructive and quality posts, they give it at nonsense ANN threads. But who knows?

xtraelv, I think this thread belongs to Reputation? Or I'm just mistaken.

I think this is the rule that they break.

See its easy for you to say but tough for the people above to decide what is right and wrong. I am sure mods will look into them once reported and they will possibly ban/nuke accounts which are shitposting like this.

Its called ICO shill bumping and at one time it was only restricted to newbies spamming them threads with "great project sir" "good potential" "best project" comments. Once they got nuked these shitbeggars had a new idea make up fake conversations and beat the dead horse. Pick up lines from the whitepaper and start discussing on them. All the same thing - just doing it in a different manner.

While the first case is easy for the mods to decide on what action to take. But what would you have done in the second case? They are not shitposting per se but discussing the project.

Reputation is more for issues with trust.

This post is just a general discussion about what is happening.

By the way, I think Moderators should do something to these accounts since it is spamming the forum and are just shills.

I tend to agree with TheUltraElite - it is shill bumping but it is not a clear cut case of spam or "low quality posts".

It is annoying and in my opinion low quality conversation but I'm unsure whether it is low quality enough to get deleted.

It makes is also quite easy to pick out the shills and see which ICOs pay for shill bumping.

So you mean there is no such a thing called Merit abuse, enlighten me? Because I always believed those "some people" that you mentioned are the major contributors to spammers/shitposters/underworld bounty freaks to rank up and do what they actually do with greater effect, clogging the threads with their bounty reports and bumping threads.

They can do whatever with their Merits. But if they couldn't find any constructive and quality post, so be it without giving oxygen to those shills.

Merit is not moderated. But the worst offenders are painted in red, tarred and feathered.

Merit is quite a good way to detect who the shills and sockpuppets are. Let them waste all their merits on their alt accounts and then when they rank up - ban them for shit-posting. Eventually the airdropped merit will run out....

There are people giving Merits to any post they want as they don't really care about Merits. Although "Yes" we can say that some are considered as "Merit Abuse" at some point, but not all of them. Not because someone gave Merit to a ANN thread doesn't mean it's an abuse. To make this more clearer, providing evidences is the greatest way to prove your theory Smiley

Not because someone gave Merit to a ANN thread doesn't mean it's an abuse.
Someone meriting an ANN thread may look like abuse to some but not to others. What I mean to say is that the idea of giving merits to helpful, knowledgeable posts is subjective and it will differ in opinion according to the merit source. Since merit sources/merit hoarding members are also humans we have to accept it and live with it.

Call me biased, but you people are becoming more narrow-minded about awarding merits.
