My cousin opened me an Electrum account. At that time I used Windows and that open there. Now I'm using linux. I have two questions

• I am able to use Electrum on Linux
• There will be a security problem with the use of Linux

Yes. There are two ways. Electrum on both Windows and Linux use the same wallet file type so you can just transfer your wallet from your Windows computer to Linux computer. The other option is to restore your wallet on your Linux PC, by typing in the 12 word seed that was given to you when you first created your wallet (on Windows). You can also use your master private key to restore if it's easier.

Less people use Linux than Windows meaning that less people are actively trying to hack Linux PCs so Linux is safer (one reason, but not the only why).

I totally misread the question haha. Yes you can use electrum on Linux go to electrum.org and click the downloads tab. There will instructions on how to install on Linux

no, that is not the reason. there are enough people using Linux to create enough incentive for hackers to try their hands and they are doing it. the difference is that Linux is open source unlike windows, so when a security hole is found in Linux it is found fast and is fixed fast and the update is pushed to everyone to patch it fast.
in windows when a security hole is exploited by a hacker it will take time for Microsoft to find out what that security hole is, then it takes another time to fix it and push the update to everyone to patch it and most of the times it is not completely fixed.

i wouldn't call it "security problem" but if you are brand new to Linux then you will certainly have a lot of problems because you won't do what you are doing there. but it is not hard to learn the basics needed to use the OS you just have to spend some time doing it.

i wouldn't call it "security problem" but if you are brand new to Linux then you will certainly have a lot of problems because you won't do what you are doing there. but it is not hard to learn the basics needed to use the OS you just have to spend some time doing it.

Actually it is a reason. Your reason is also valid, and I was thinking about it while tyoing the response, but for some reason instead of saying that I just said 'not the only [reason] why [Linux is safer]'

Well, there must be enough people to create an incentive for hackers to hack macOS as well (because more people use macOS than Linux). macOS is also (like Windows) not open source, so why are there so little hacks? The incentive isn't there that is why.

But I agree with your point. There are hundreds of developers ready to patch vulnerabilities for the Linux kernel whereas for closed-source, it is the job of a handful of people.

as for Mac OS, it is open source where it counts. in fact Apple has done an interesting thing. they are using an open source kernel but everything else like the GUI and the applications are not. which means they easily get all the stability and security of an open source UNIX-like platform, and at the same time they get the control and profitability of a proprietary platform.

I get your point. BSD (what macOS uses) is open source, but still, they don't publicly show their code.

Also, don't quote me on this, but I read an article a few years back where the writer talked to a 'hacker' and he/she said that one on one, macOS is easier to hack but most hackers go for Windows due to the vast number of computers being operated compared to macOS.
