The group you want members added to should be set to "Super Group" and members should be able to add members.

95% of the work is done manually, so these settings are a must.

I have found myself added to a few groups as well without my permission. I find it very rude for assholes to do that to users without asking first.

Exactly, forcefully adding people without their will is a crime and a form of a spam. I wish if any DT member take notice of it and give him Red Paint.

I've had these problems before too. Maybe these guys are the culprit. I changed my "Group invite settings" to prevent it from ever happening again.
Simply change it from "Everybody" to "My Contacts".
