This is the new type of scam and it's pretty obvious out of 10 five will be doing this and they'll fall for it, as for the password check the site was using ssl or no, it often happens they don't use ssl or you used public wifi but good thing you're safe. However as a safety precaution change all passwords you normally use. Relax this is just a hoax and you won cause you called their bluff.
I have belonged to so many forums over the years, I doubt I could count them all up. Many do not use ssl and probably the forum I visit the most does not. I know several forums have sold over the years, some to corporations that don’t seem to give a rats poop about the site as long as it generates money. I can generally spot a scam in a heartbeat as I did with this one, but the BTC address they left was like nothing I’ve ever seen before. I’m sure I’ve heard of Bitcoin on the news or a discussion in a forum, but today is the first time I’ve ever tried to understand what it is, and believe me, I still don’t understand it.

it seems like imagination among scammers is running wild these days but their creativity and knowledge is dwindling every day! in the past they at least made an effort to actually hack you and steal your money. nowadays it seems like they just make up a story and then ask you to pay them money what happened was probably this: some kid went on dark market and bought a password database which was leaked from some website or something with emails. then made up a automation script which chose every email in that list and sent the same message to them just changing names, password and possibly the bitcoin address requesting payment. and now that kid hopes for ROI...

I just got an email that I pasted below the asterisks. The only thing they have right is an old password that I still use for forums I’ve belonged to for years. Mostly computer and photography related forums. They are telling me they have videos from a porn site and my web cam and well, you can read the email. I do not have a web cam, nor do I use Messenger, Outlook or Facebook. I removed my password from the email. Their BTC address is listed, tho I removed the last 4 characters for the purpose of posting here. They are demanding $1,000 within 24 hours. I do believe this is a scam of some sort. If I click on reply, there is no address and if I try to look at all headers in the email, it is not available. Never seen that before. Is there a way to trace this person and find out who they are? I am not sending them anything.
One thing I did notice the other day is that a proxy program I run always in Firefox got turned off the other day. That’s never happened before.
*************************************************
It seems that, (*****************), is your password. You may not know me and you are probably wondering why you are getting this e mail, right? actually, I put in place a trojans over the adult vids (adult porn) web-site and you know what, you visited this web site to have fun (you know what I mean). While you were watching videos, your internet browser began working like a RDP (Remote Access) which provided accessibility of your screen and web cam. and then, my computer software obtained all of your current contacts from your Messenger, Outlook, Facebook, as well as emails. What did I really do? I made a double-screen video clip. First part shows the video you're seeing (you have a good taste haha . . .), and 2nd part shows the recording of your web camera. exactly what should you do? Well, in my opinion, $1000 is a fair price for your little secret. You'll make the payment by Bitcoin (if you do not know this, search "how to buy bitcoin" in Google). BTC Address: 15mwbKGQ2MMQW91G6VUwHx8huEFRZZ**** (It is case sensitive, so copy and paste it) Very important: You've got 1 day in order to make the payment. (I have a completely unique pixel within this e mail, and at this moment I know that you have read through this email message). If I don't get the BitCoins, I will certainly send out your videos to all of your contacts including family members, colleagues, and so forth. Having said that, if I get the payment, I'll destroy the recording immidiately. If you'd like evidence, reply with "Yes!" and i'll undoubtedly send your videos to your 6 contacts. It is a non-negotiable offer, that being said don't waste my personal time and yours by answering this message.
if they had the video of you, they would attach it into the email to make their point. If they didn't, they are probably only bluffing, as it's an easy way to do this bluff. Don't you worry

Just ignore it. Anybody with some good skills can hack a webcam and then record you while you are browsing the internet and then link that to some random porn site and use that to blackmail you. If you were not masturbating in front of your computer, then you will be fine. My webcam is only plugged in, when I Skype with friends and I prefer to have sex with my partner, so I would laugh at emails like this. Best practice for the porn wankers out there is to cover your webcam, when you watching porn. ^lol^

nowadays a lot of modes of using bitcoin as extortion is not good for the development of bitcoin, because bitcoin is connected with criminal acts. I hope that the incident does not happen again and can utilize bitcoin properly.

My camera on the laptop is duck taped Long time ago when I started trading with crypto currencies I put the duck tape on camera and it stayed until today. It doesn't bother me. If I need a skype call I will take it off and then put it on after I finish.

The scammer use Bitcoin to scan you because it is hard to detect who use that Bitcoin address instead using Fiat currency. I don't think the scammer really have your videos because if the scammer really could break pc security, i think they will choose better prey instead you.

That's is just a spam email trying to scam you. They probably got your old password and email address from some database leak and is using those information to just scare you a bit. They expected you to get startled seeing your password on their hands and try to extort you with the help of your fear and embarrassment. Typical old school scam. I still remember there used to be a scam/blackmail in US back in 2003-2004 where they used to send you letters stating that they know you were having an affair with someone else and was deceiving your wife. They even claim that they have enough proof to bust you, but those are just bullshit.

That's just a scam. I advice you to check further the website he's telling about wherein he got the way up to tell those stuff. Unfortunately, we can't determined the identity of a certain person with just the given bitcoin address itself that's why greedy people hiding in to get money using bitcoin and that's really unacceptable for everyone especially to those people who use bitcoin in a good way as how it must be used to.

It is a cheap scam and funny too.. You should let go of the password and make new ones. This is also one of the down sides of bitcoin and cryptocurrency operating as a decentralized system, makes it almost impossible to track him through just his address.

That someone can not be tracked down thru Bitcoin just seems wrong. Seems like an invitation for criminals to be able to continue scamming people with no fear of being found.

As we all know that bitcoin is a decentralised crypto currency and there is no such proper authentic regulating body over bitcoin that could keep eye over all the bitcoin activities and I think this defect is misused by some social deflauters as they misused it and use bitcoin in many illegal activities like selling drugs, explosives and money laundering and blackmailing even so this is the most important reason why many countries are in against of bitcoin and I think in this situation, awareness could be the great influence.

That's why we need to protect our computer or mobile phone with updates security firewall, etc. Because it is our life, whether we realize it or not, we are indeed storing our important data in the media, even to our financial data. If I become a victim of blackmail, I will not give up and give what they ask for, the first thing I will do is of course, take my disk media and open it through another computer, then I copy important files to other media, so I will reset my computer that has become the hijack.
