Wow pretty sure rank and merit system really work and good for those who achieved to rank up. It is not easy to received merits however still users manage to rank up.

The good side? It is pretty obvious that user now tend to be good and do helpful contributions for the forum. This is the reward for the forum and a way against doing shitposts, scam and plagiarism. This is my opinion and I just realize that I myself too adding the problem of the forum when I was doing bounty campaign especially in the social media.

Now that the shitposts had been minimized we see now the essense of it. However, scamming is still there and it is very difficult to eradicate even outside the forum. It is just one of the major problem of the forum even in the future still will be seeing scam activities.

Anyway, Congratulations to the users who just rank up!

Undoubtedly, those 9 users are the most recognized and respected contributors to the forum.

Since Legendaries who were awarded 1000 airdropped merits on January 24, 2018, cannot rank up, I decided to add the fifth list with the primary purpose of showing those of them who have earned 1000 merits.

Perhaps I will maintain the sixth list in the future. I'll think about it.

I haven't counted the number of merits for quite a while now, but it comes in at 113 merits just for the OP of the Known Alts thread (there's a handful of other posts in that thread I've picked up merits for).  People have been very generous and it inspires me to keep investigating & maintaining the thread.

The user who has 2000 merits is undoubtedly a Self-made Legendary, so in my opinion this notch should be mentioned. Then I used the logic of increasing the requirements for the merits of Hero Member and Legendary, so I just multiplied this number by 2 in the same way. Consecutive doubling looks simpler.

Yep... the merits have been achieved for Legendary.. and also largely the number of posts seem to be enough too..  because in order to become Legendary, you have to average at least 14 posts per every two week period, which you seem to have achieved (even currently - ahead of schedule).

So, surely the only matter left is to gain activity points, and for you, it appears that so long as you post at least one post every two weeks, then you will have reached the requirements of the legendary lottery which can happen anywhere between 2 years and 3 years of the beginning of your account.. which would be activity levels of somewhere in the range of 728 and 1092 (something like that).  Even though merits were not an issue for me, I am pretty sure that I was over 1,000 activity points when I finally ranked up through the Legendary lottery.

It passed 1 year from my first merit and I have to wait at least 1 more year from now on (for reaching 775 activity) and a maximum of 1 year and 8 months (for reaching the 1030 activity, if I'll have that bad luck to rank up at the maximum required activity). Patience is a virtue though...

Yes, you fulfilled your promise. I'm not surprised you earned 1000 merits so quickly. I have read your threads about cypherpunks and the history of Bitcoin and found them very laconic and informative. I guess soon you will be included in the list of users who have over 2000 merits.

Forking hell that is impressive dude

Thanks.  By a simple count across my three active periods since the introduction of the merit system, it took a total of not more than 310 days’ worth of real activity to achieve this:

The lucky merit landed on a post which took me way too long to write, edit, and fancily format.  It covers briefly (!) as practicable (!!) a relatively obscure book which draws East-West cultural comparisons, my agreements and disagreements with Solzhenitsyn, and the cultural relevance of ancestor-worship to posterity.  I did not realistically expect to be much lauded for that.  (Preview-page edit:  My prediction was a wee bit off the mark:  It received another merit whilst I was writing this!)

I brag about my crossing of the all-earned 2000 merit threshold only to rub it in, for in the time since early January:

• I have had the opportunity to elaborate more about my opinions on controversial subjects.  (I did touch on such topics before, but perhaps nobody noticed.)  I would be far from the only one to have remarked that this can induce some people to be biased against meriting posts that they would otherwise deem meritorious.  As an advocate of free speech and freethinking, I have refused to stay strictly within the narrow confines of what can nowadays be called “popular”, or even “socially acceptable”.  The merit system does not affect my decision-making process as such; but it provides insight into the behaviour of others, both for better and for worse.
• At least one known merit source has publicly alleged that she has me ignore-listed.  (Oh, why do some idiots fantasize that that may bother me?)
• I have made very few posts in the technical forum, which has always been the most reliable place for me to earn merits.
• You, TMAN, seem not to be here to express your refined taste for my prolific fan art for a kitty-cat who is now nonexistent. :-(

Although my merit earning rate has slowed, and my merit/activity ratio will probably plunge after I start taking my retirement plans seriously, it does go to prove that thus far, at least, quality still trumps all else.
