Looks like their helpdesk (which probably at the end of the day consisted solely of mr karpeles himself) has also shut up shop

Nope it's still working fine. Not sure why people keep saying the support page isn't working - here it is:

https://mtgox.zendesk.com/home

and here:

There is also this that people should be aware of:

EDIT: Please excuse this. I think it is more FUD. Amazing the clever tricks people are coming up with.

Then of course there's some fun:

https://www.mtgox.com/img/pdf/insolvency-Announcement.backup

Now what is that you may ask?

Well ... notice it doesn't give a 404 error?

Click on this to see what it looks like if it doesn't exist:

That's just more BS. You can change the address to whatever and there will be no 404 either. Cheap FUD.

NP, it's just worth pointing out Wink

The difference probably lies in the fact that the server understands the extension .backup but not .backup2

Whoever came up with that is full of shit.

Someone very rich needs to speak up and say they are acquiring mtgox immediately. Something needs to be worked out for the community sake.

Interesting, So basically Gox.com was a rebranding strategy and now possibly used for a pseudo Acquisition..

How Ripple Rips you: "The founders of Ripple Labs created 100 billion XRP at Ripple's inception. No more can be created according to the rules of the Ripple protocol. Of the 100 billion created, 20 billion XRP were retained by the creators, seeders, venture capital companies and other founders. The remaining 80 billion were given to Ripple Labs. Ripple Labs intends to distribute and sell 55 of that 80 billion XRP to users and strategic partners. Ripple Labs also had a giveaway of under 200 million XRP (0.002% of all XRP) via World Community Grid that was later discontinued.[29] Ripple Labs will retain the remaining 25 billion"
