In my opinion you can totally avoid participating in scam ICO by not joining anymore in any ICOs. I think this is the only and the best answer not to experience fake/scam ICO. Very risky and serious decision to be made. The minimal damage is more acceptable than collateral damage.

I agree it is very hard to determine a scam ICO, there is no exact way how to prevent this scam ICO. And I think that ICOs are dead anyway, I've never seen an ICO project that raised a lot compared on the previous years. The truth is they will only give us the visitors a necessary information but a biased ones. There is no borderline of those scam ICO and hthe legit ones. Even if you pay the site they will definitely do what you will tell them to do.
