Yes, they are.  You should take good care of it.  The brand new ones go for over $150 and the used ones for around $60-$80 (USD).

Yes, the story behind it is quite amazing.  Especially the lengths that Hasbro went through to suppress it.  It is also a little absurd that they claim they own the suffix -opoly.
