I love how the UK version portrays such a grim, dreary picture. It's so realistic that it scares me. It really explores a different side of comedy, not punchlines or silly things like that, but rather the behaviour of certain characters - how desperate Brent is to be loved, such a try hard.
It's very realistic and a lot of people including me wasn't sure whether it was an actual documentary or not. Whilst the US one is meant to be a mockumentary, it isn't realistically filmed in a the way of one. It's like they forget about that aspect a lot. Wasn't Gervais involved in the making of the first two seasons of The Office US or something? Yeah I thought that it was real, then I found out that it was a mockumentary, then my mind was blown by its genius haha.

I've not seen either films but I want to. Of course I am biased but I think British comedy reigns supreme in all aspects. Americans make the best dramas though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6f6qRwp8YwEOoh, you're 'ard showing off cos of the...

Hahaha, that scene typifies all that is brilliant about Brent's character. He is so aware of the camera that he even goes as far as to point out that Neil is saying it all for the cameras, which is exactly what he isn't doing, but precisely what Brent does.

He's just a ball of contradictions and hypocrisy. I could honestly write a thesis on the genius of The Office. http://youtu.be/9fOMM2SqSGMThere's a weight of intellect behind my comedy. If you were to ask me to name three geniuses, I probably wouldn’t say Einstein, Newton...you know. I’d go Milligan, Cleese, Everett... Sessions.

Watching The Office UK right at the time when it came out was an epic experience. It felt like suddenly everyone realized something new.

I know exactly what you mean, Gervais & Merchant kinda created their own original genre that has been copied so many times now, but I'm confused by the bolded second part of your posthaha/

And not because I'm in it, but because it degrades women, which I hate. And the culprit, whoever he is, is in this room. Or she, it could be a woman. Women are as filthy as men. Not naming any names - I don't know any - but women. are. dirty. LOL

If there's two words that pop into your head after seeing that image then you have my respect. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u74UKFPzx78Neal: Nice jacket David: Whatever. Neal: Looks a bit like mine. David: What make's yours? Neal: Armani. David:…expensive. Neal: And yours? David: Sergio Giorgini.

I know exactly what you mean, Gervais & Merchant kinda created their own original genre that has been copied so many times now, but I'm confused by the bolded second part of your posthaha/ " WittTweets" started twittering Wittgenstein's autobiography over the course of a few months a few years back. It was quite fun to follow the tweets - it felt like he sort of came alive. I take the idea to be that one can see the same thing in a completely new light, without being able to pinpoint what has changed. And seeing something suddenly as a joke is an excellent example of this, for when you try to explain *why* it is funny, it is extremely difficult. I remember seeing The Office with my mom and brother, and my brother and I got it at the same time, while my mother didn't, and try as we might it was impossible to describe why it was funny.

My mother doesn't get it or most of the comedy I like either, but then again her favourite sitcoms are Mrs Brown's Boys and Benidorm.

I never really liked it and didn't find it that funny to be honest, especially that dance which so many TV people found so funny. Although i've only seen several episodes.
The things i like which Ricky Gervais has done are The Ricky Gervais Show (one of my favourite programmes) and An Idiot Abroad. Also the films The Invention of Lying and the one where he sees ghosts.

I thought the dance was hilarious, but just because it was so ridiculously outrageous, but I wouldn't rank it as one of the funniest moments IMO.

Funny how he 'negotiates' a price with Dawn for what turns out to be £100 for carrying a ghetto blaster. "...that is silly money"
