Hello all,

I'm building a low-tech window into the world of Bitcoin. It works via SMS (only 14% of Ukrainians have a smartphone) . It is fully functional, but not released yet.

With the recent events in Ukraine, it seems like my project will be able to help some of the people involved in the chaos. I want to make it available there asap.

I need some help establishing an SMS gateway that can both send to and receive from the Ukraine.
I also need some people on the ground in Ukraine to run some tests with.

Can anyone help?

sure, here's how it works:

Code:
YOU: join as bob
APP: Signup as bob? Confirm by texting back cjm525
YOU: cjm525
APP: Your account has been confirmed

* someone with btc goes to app/API and generates BTC address for your alias
* they send 100 satoshi to that address

APP: You received 100
YOU: send fred 50
APP: Transfer 50 to fred? Confirm uvi278
YOU: uvi278
APP: Your payment has been confirmed and is being processed
APP: You sent 50 to fred

(fred also gets:)
APP: You received 50 from bob

Which reminds me, I need also help translating those messages.

Can you clarify "someone with btc"?

So basically I signup like this, and then people can send btc to my alias...
Is my alias tied to my phone number?

yep, there's an API and a web app where people can generate a BTC address for a given alias. So anybody who holds BTC can create an address for a given user and send bitcoin to them through it.

For now, an alias is tied to a phone number, but it is designed so that eventually you will be able associate multiple devices with one alias. I haven't started working on that feature yet.

It would probably be tied to the app which is on your phone..

Bank withdrawals in Ukraine have just been limited to ~$100 a day...
[Zerohedge, Wall Street Journal]

This seems like a good opportunity for bitcoin to bring some genuine help to people, and at the same time get some badly needed positive press just days after the Fattest Financial Fuckup so far in '14.

Any developments?

yep, SMS in testing now. I need someone in Ukraine with a mobile to help me.

I also haven't started translating yet, but odesk is a good suggestion I will probably go that route.
