Discord Scams - What's the scam here, how does it work?

I've been receiving the same type of message from multiple spammers now, asking me if I can withdraw crypto for them from an exchange to my own wallet.
Then they want me to send it to them and they're supposedly willing to pay a fee for it.

Here's the original message:

Hey , can you help me ? Found you in crypto-chat, so i think you may help . I hvae got 1.34 BTC (or 39.18 ETH) on e-coins.info and need to withdraw it. I want to send it to you , so you will withdraw it to your BTC/ETH wallet. The main problem is there's restriction for withdrawals and i can't do any now. You will get 0.1 btc or 2 ETH for help.

Of course, I'm not going to do this, but I was just wondering how this scam actually works.

It's some sort of phishing (has the "exact same template as CEX.IO" + also has their logo on its heading part). Most likely will make you use your login credentials somewhere in its process/along the way.

I really hope that no one falls for this trap and its good that you let this community aware of such scams are still on-going. And for those newbies reading this, don't do it, no matter how much money they offer to you, not worth a try.

Maybe I'll reply to the next one I receive just to see if they do end up sending me to a phishing site.
I wonder how many people would actually fall for that though, that just seems too obvious.

The thing with this example though, is that they are talking about an obscure website (e-coins.info).
Most people wouldn't have an account on there, so how can they get you to login on their phishing website, if you don't have an account?

Yeah that's pretty much the same indeed, just a different website. Doesn't seem like they fell for it though, they did not pay that 0.01 BTC 'verification fee' in the end.

Good thing that you noticed before you went and believed in him.

I think that the scam goes like he transfers you money on that phishing site, then once you receive the money he'll tell you to send him real BTC on-chain to him, while you wait for your withdrawal to clear. All the while the victim thinks that he is going to get 0.1-0.2 BTC profit from this.

I've seen this a couple of times outside of your case as well. Hopefully people don't fall for this anymore, but there seems to be a few different phishing sites in play here, using sort of the same templates both on their site and for the "bait" in communication.
