Can anyone tell me how to fix the linux wallet myself? We're chewing through blocks, but having the wallet here on my home computer isn't an ideal situation, I hate stales.

in source code at src/net.cpp

remove :

static const char *strMainNetDNSSeed[][2] = {
    {"birdcointools.com", "124.182.5.93"},
    {"birdcoinpool.org", "162.250.125.26"}
};

static const char *strTestNetDNSSeed[][2] = {
    {"birdcointools.com", "testnet-seed.birdcointools.com"},
    {"weminemnc.com", "testnet-seed.weminemnc.com"},
    {NULL, NULL}
};

and add :

static const char *strMainNetDNSSeed[][2] = {
    {NULL, NULL}
};

static const char *strTestNetDNSSeed[][2] = {
    {NULL, NULL}
};

this will fix the problem with dns seed, my pool run with this fix for more then 72 hours without any issues.

Compiled a new linux wallet with the information I was given and now everything's working great!

https://mega.co.nz/#!ydEz0YyJ!Z2xUV5qBUECBSYPizF5GH5f0L4BONJUg34Y6mJ-MdBM

There's a link to a .gz archive with the DNSSeed fix, there's also a compiled birdcoind in there as well. Anyone can use that or just compile a new one. I didn't strip debug symbols or anything, just left it as is. If you compile a new one, make sure to chmod 755 build_detect_platform in src/leveldb/

Remember everyone, every week we're giving away 25% of the pool's earnings, so come and mine with us at http://birdcoinpool.tk!

Sorry for the late response. An issue at work kept me away for a while. Congrats on finding a solution to the wallet problem - although that should be the job for the developer(s). Any word from him/her/them? Developer involvement seems to be an important part in the success and popularity of a coin, so it would be nice to hear something.

Yes, seems the dev has abandoned the project altogether. It's nice that we're mining mass coins, but worthless coins atm. I'll keep the pool open for now. Maybe there's hope! http://birdcoinpool.tk

My pool is doing pretty well, we're chewing up blocks like crazy and only have like 4 miners, lol. I don't want this coin to die since I and another pool op put a lot of effort into getting it running properly! Where'd the dev disappear to?

lol you guys.. Surely we can do something with birdcoin, possibly talk an exchange into accepting them? I haven't looked around much but isn't there an open source solution for setting up some type of *coin gambling site? That might be fun. What I don't get is how you dump a halfway broken release and just abandon it. Maybe the dev is brewing up a new broken coin. Or, maybe that's the point, to distract everyone so we're busy collecting birdies while they're doing something more profitable.. Just dumb conjecture. Anyway, I'll keep the pool open a while, it's fun watching the auto payouts pop up every minute or two, in the meantime getting ready for OctoCoin!

Great!!

The dev need to be more active or new devs need to take over the coin.
I imagine something like put a dove or something in a new/revamped logo and make it a peace theme.
The world right now could need to focuse on peace, don't you think  Smiley
