we have had 133 coins mined in the last 24 hours. Yesterday it was 93! Did everyone just get lucky?

I think you meant blocks.

It's probably luck. The overall trend is still down.

I would imaging that we do not have too much further down to go until we reach an equilibrium of mining power that is still profitable (or enthusiasts who don't care about price) for the current prices.
