Hello Satoshi, all forum members and Bitcoin users ! Thank you for developing Bitcoin. A P2P anonymous digital currency / eCurrency is long overdue. I'm very impressed and this project has great potential. I've started running a Bitcoin node on a static IP - 24/7 to help support the project and of course earn some Bitcoins. My port 8333 is also correctly forwarded for maximum connectivity. I'm an IT enthusiast and Forex Trader with an interest in all types of currency exchange. I'm a great user and supporter of Linux and Open Source software and I also run a Tor server. I look forward to contributing to this forum and the growing Bitcoin community. Thank you. BitcoinFX.

No, that's the mailing list. There was a SourceForge forum. I never saw the SF forum, but my impression is that there were very few posts there. (I'd love to see it, though.)

There's no Google Cache of it? I think I tried looking as well, it might be lost to history. This thread, welcoming users to the forum, is piece of history as well!

If you want to have some fun, take this url: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5and just keep incrementing up the topic number. You will see a play through of old posts. The next button at the bottom of the thread doesn't really do this.

1, 2, and 4 exist in the staff forum. 3 was permanently deleted at some point (it must have contained Satoshi's real name and address).

This is not some pseudoeconomic post-modern Libertarian cult, it's an un-led, crowd-sourced mega startup organized around mutual self-interest where problems, whether of the theoretical or purely practical variety, are treated as temporary and, ultimately, solvable. Censorship of e-gold was easy. Censorship of Bitcoin will be… entertaining.

Is it the first post of this forum?
Well, it's topic number 5, but 1-4 are inaccessible for me. That might just be because they are "moderator only", though.

Staff forum. They are just test threads, and configuration type stuff. I inserted topic subject into the quotes as the first line. First thread is Welcome to SMF! Welcome to Simple Machines Forum! We hope you enjoy using your forum. If you have any problems, please feel free to ask us for assistance. Thanks! Simple Machines Second Testing the new site platform Drupal & Simple Machines Forum
Third is inaccessible so it must have been deleted, though it may still exist in the earlier backups which several of us have. If I had to guess it was a just a test thread made to be deleted so that could be tested and logs verified. Fourth is SMF Config Notes I left the admin account set to the original SMF theme so if I somehow completely wedge the custom theme I can still get in to fix it.
I've got a neat little 12x12 coin image to replace those pip stars with. Should look nice. Also some nice button images to try.
The registration page has "hide your e-mail address" unchecked by default. I must fix that in php before we can open up.
The Announcements forum is currently moderator access only.
Most of the replies are test replies, with some discussion about preventing spam at registration.

Since this is a historical thread I'm sending this message to Satoshi: Hello Satoshi - thank you for Bitcoin! It changed my life. This one is for my future self: Hello Disclaimer201, don't let Bitcoin define your entire life. I hope you are healthy and happy. Don't be a greedy bastard. To everyone: These are exciting times, so stay calm. Don't spend all your time in front of computer screens. Learn some French, buy some new curtains for the garage window, build a historical mining rig as if it were 2011. Go swimming. Never sell all of your coins.

"BittBurger was here"
Time capsule thread? Hope so.
Remember all the trash talkers (they're still alive and well at this date). Remember those who said this would never amount to anything. The erroneous ponzi scheme analogies. Tulips. Beanie Babies. My friends and family making fun of me at every moment possible. My financial adviser calling me crazy. The "all-knowing" old school economists, stock guys, day traders, bankers, and pretty much anyone with any education in the obsolete financial realm saying "Bitcoin will fail". Journalists writing confused, misinformed articles with comments sections below full of mysteriously enraged Bitcoin detractors. Meanwhile those with eyes to see, as of December 2013 ... propagating this new technology around the world. International conferences being held nearly every month. Investors ... entrepreneurs ... opportunists ... the greedy ... the intelligent ... the libertarians ... the crypto anarchists ... the cypher punks ... building the foundation for a paradigm shift that will change this world. Core groups of people meeting old school in public places to exchange, trade, and buy and sell. A grass roots movement in its truest form.
This is Bitcoin as of December 2013. What will it be 10 years from now?
Thank you Satoshi.

what Satoshi invented can not simply be canceled, they can argue that Bitcoin as a currency might fail! but the Block chain is that thing that wont fail, block chain is the greatest invention or innovation after internet , they can ignore it or laugh at it they can try to fight it but they can not uninvent it, Bitcoin is already changing the way how we think about technology, democracy, economic, and is a hell of experiment.... Thank you satoshi who ever you are I wish a good luck...

It's pretty mind blowing how far BTC has come since the start of this thread. Just think of how massive it has grown in a couple years from being so small to becoming a multi billion dollar industry... and that is just the beginning of things to come...

Hello Satoshi, The year is 2014 August 10th forum time. Your creation Bitcoin has grown immencely since it's inception with it now having a market cap of about $ 7.7 billion with it reaching it's highest point of about a $ 15 billion market cap in November 2013. Bitcoin has done many wonderful things like give people more control of their finances and also making their finances easier to access. To all you in the future reading about this in your books/holograms/brain images whatever you're using in the future this is where it started. With two great minds. There is a story in a book called the bible about a man named Jesus Christ. Jesus was allegedely a very peaceful man that brought change against corruption and fought evil similar to Satoshi. However Jesus fell to the evil of others but sacrificed himself so the rest of us wouldn't have to suffer, so the story gos. A long time later it is said Jesus will return but this time he won't be so peace bringing but more firm and will bring justice. That is me here and now Cryptopaths the CryptoKnight. I admit I am not the hero crypto deserves but I am the one it needs right now to all you in the future I tell you this do not lose your path fighting against corruption and evil. The banks were evil in the era of Satoshi and Cryptopaths and they were evil far before but the question I ask is will this evil transcend into the future or will we have the strength and perseverance to stop it? I hope to see a day were the universe is rid of this evil and people can have control of there own lives and not be controlled by banking families which are a far cry themselves from the ingenious ones that started the con in the first place. We all must fight against both good and evil in our lives but this is something you yourself must decide. Is it really true you either die a hero or fight long enough to see yourself become the villain? I guess I will find out soon enough and I feel that day is fast approaching. I leave you all with this time, time is the key.

But anyway I'll use this opportunity to ask, what happened to the new forums anyway that was in work?

At the end of this documentary The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin (2014) it is hinted that Mark Karpelès knows who is behind the Satoshi account.
interviewer: "Who is Satoshi Nakamoto?" --- Karpelès: "Hahaha... I... rather not tell you, but yea." interviewer: "Oh, you know?" --- Karpelès: "Maybe not, maybe," smiles and nods.

BTC finds itself at a crossroad. As signs of mainstream consciousness of bitcoin increase, there seems to be a movement to marginalise libertarians and other more "extreme" beliefs in favour of a toned down more business like approach. It feels like everyone is starting to dress on their sunday best and focus completely on how it is cheaper, more private etc. I have no opinion on it except to think that some balance is needed.
Theres a subtle evolution going on, which you are probably well too aware, between those who want more anonymity and those who wish to appease, between those who are willing to give up even the most core characteristic of bitcoin (decentralisation), either through encouraging mining centralisation or in other ways, for more features or to make it more user friendly and between those who view that line as uncrossable. On the one had we have many "trolls" who kindly take to the community by addressing it as a cult, or delusional, or batshit crazy, and on the other there are many who work on the premise that if you build it they will come.
The fate of bitcoin is decided everyday, but it does feel like bitcoin stands at a crossroad of four paths. The one many hope for is very light regulation, maintenance of decentralisation while making it much more user friendly. It may well be the case that a second path of heavy regulation is more likely together with perhaps some centralisation. If we are unlucky, the libertarian bent is completely erased and heavy centralisation is allowed, albeit covertly. Worst of all, as price has continued to go down for a year now, the will of everyone is being tested. It does not help that, unfortunately, almost six years on, many bitcoin companies are still run by amateurs who fail to take basic precautions with their security. A fourth path might be taken therefore whereby the price continues downwards followed by a gradual loss of interest to oblivion.
Which road will she take? Tunein in 2020 to find out more.
