You don't have to own a whole bitcoin. Just buy a fraction of it and keep holding. You can't predict when the price will fall or rise, but you do know that in the long run it will eventually rise, so just invest and keep holding.
If you want to invest on altcoins, then make a list of trending coins. Analyze those coins and look for coins that are undervalued and has good potential. Invest on those coins. Don't go around asking suggestions from people since they will tend to be biased towards the coins they have invested.

I would always start my crypto currency journey in bitcoins, and when you buy bitcoins then buy them ove4 a period of a ;ew weeks or months, to get better price averages.
When you get your bitcoins then take them of the exchange and keep them in a save wallet, were only you got the private keys.
Buying altcoins can be a god way to get more bitcoins, but you can also take big losses in altcoins. I would never invest more than 20-30% of my portfolio into altcoins.

Afaik the buy point would be at the reversal trend, in bitcoin mostly. So the price level would be what analysts say and read in the charts. Some say 4000 - 4800. "3600 to 2400". There are some support levels which have to see volume and market participation. Krown (TA videos on youtube) would say to buy a little around 4800 level. Now, everyone has its level of confidence and risk taking.

in my opinion, no matter how much money you have, just invest in BTC, because waiting for low price bitcoin like this is very cheap, then if bitcoin has recovered, you will enjoy the results ... I'm not sure to suggest you invest in another coin ..
