I believe this is a source the algorithm:

I'm not a programmer and can't verify if that algorithm is efficent or not. But it runs fairly well on any modern hardware, unlike the Bitcoin's one (Radeon 5000-6000 only) and the scrypt (strongly prefers AMD Phenoms on 64-bit Linux; no GPU support at all).
