Hostgator the bitcoin haters.

I signed up and paid for a hostgator plan. They wanted me to send in two pieces of ID which I did. Just becuase of the domain name, the fraud department contacted me asking the following:

Due to the domain crypago.com, we feel your website may be in violation of our Terms of Service. Please review our Terms of Service here: http://www.hostgator.com/tos/tos.php and http://www.hostgator.com/tos/acceptable-use-policy.

To expedite your account setup, please respond to this email with a description of your intended site content.

In addition please answer the questions below:
1. Is the site is going to be used as a BitCoin "wallet" or public ledger
2. Is the site is going to be used for cryptocurrency or Bitcoin mining, storing, sale or currency exchange of Cryptocurrency?
3. Does the site involve currency exchange transactions?

We apologize for any inconveniences that may result from this process, but we want to ensure that our HostGator is able to accommodate your hosting needs.

Then just hours later, before I even had a chance to respond they send me this:

hostgator.com refunded $142.77 USD from your purchase on September 9, 2018.

They refunded my money and refused me service. Talk about ignorance and prejudice. Does anyone know of a hosting company that's crypto friendly? Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't immediately call them "haters" though. I think it's probably just because a lot of scams has used their hosting services in the past so they're just making sure there won't be more same incidences.

Sorry to hear about your problems with hostgator. I see many complaints about their service and you are certainly better off without them.

I don't know for sure, but I would suppose they also allow crypto-related websites. It would be logical. Maybe you can ask them in advance if they would accept the subject of your website. Take this with a grain of salt. I haven't used the hosting company listed in the linked article personally.

However, depending on what your website is about, shared hosting may not be the best option. It's much better to go with vps hosting.

Namecheap I do not know their TOS for sure still I know that they accept Bitcoin payments which means they are very Bitcoin friendly. Great hosting provider.

Or they just assumed just because of "cryp" word on crypago.com for the word "crypto"? lol

If you want a hosting company that's crypto friendly and has the best support, I suggest you use https://www.namecheap.com, its the only site I used for my crypto websites though there are some legit sites as well but don't have any experience on them.

That's of no use.

Every site or service you are using involving Bitcoin can update its terms at any time of the day without notice, which pretty much means that before you do something, you carefully have to read the TOS and hope that they don't change anything directly afterwards. It's an 'invisible' enemy that you can't fight against, regardless of how many times you read their terms.

I'm super stoked with how stable Namecheap has been functioning throughout the last years, and they haven't ever asked me for anything. The only downside of Namecheap is that they use BitPay (big blocker camped payment gateway). What bugs me is that BitPay now asks for an extra fee on top of your regular payment amount, which is straight bullshit.

Your site may be stored on a server or infrastructure with other sites and since yours will constantly be attacked that degrades the experience of other customers. If I were a host I'd have a dedicated crypto only side that's free to be raped while everyone else's Star Trek slash fiction remains unsullied.

I'll bet the average crypto site is bombarded 24/7 in a way no other type of site is and it's down to the host to sort some of that out.

It depends on the content largely, and whether or not the site does something involving crypto deposits and withdrawals. As long as you remain somewhat neutral, there is less reason for others to attack your site.

The thing is that web hosters are too afraid of future regulations and for that reason unnecessarily bother people with new policies that don't have any real use right now, all to avoid being sanctioned or fined at a later point.

Great thing about web hosters is that they allow you to move your domains and whatnot, so in case one isn't doing what you want it to do, hop over to the next best option. There are plenty enough alternatives.

Doesnt matter if they denied to give op on what hes seeking for but basing on the name itself then its obvious that they are really trying to get rid of crypto related things.From the word cryp then they can already presume that it would really be used on such niche.The sad thing they refuse to give out but atleast they do give out a refund.Doesnt matter or not really a big issue because its not the only one that can give out those domain names.

Never used Godaddy, found them so bloody annoying over the years, but I can personally vouch for NameCheap, as others here have as well. Been using a handful of registrars over the years, and happily ported over to NameCheap when I found they were just so much cheaper for some of the more exotic TLDs. Never a single issue with them, used virtual cards to pay no problem. Well into my 3rd year with them, just renewed recently with Bitcoin, also no problem. Never once asked for shit I'll never provide. The only downside is as 1Ref points out: BitPay.

I suspect this sector will soon clamp down on crypto though. Just a matter of time, and it's one of the oldest, most centralised industries. Weren't there a couple of new projects last year supposed to try "disrupt" this domain name thing?

Whatever became of Namecoin? That's one of the oldest alts of all with a use case that'll become increasingly compelling as time passes. No idea how clunky it is but I do find it strange how invisible it has become.

I think you can try aws I'm using aws to host my website and there is no restriction. The good thing here you can start with 1 year trial of aws services and the hosting speed is faster than a basic plan of any hosting site good for SEO. You can also, try https://www.steadyturtle.com its crypto related so I think your website is safe without crypto retriction.

This is why it is important to read the terms and conditions carefully and to see that what you are getting into. Maybe use a different site next time which is more reliable.

I've had no problems using Namecheap in the past, and I haven't really heard of any issues from others in regards to paying with Bitcoin for hosting from them. I haven't hosted a site in quite some time, but from what I've seen even on this thread, it seems not much has changed about them.

If you're having problems with paying anyone directly with BTC or any crypto, it is always possible to transfer funds to PayPal and pay through PayPal. You'll need to deal with verification on PayPal to use the service fully if you don't already have a verified account, but I have been converting crypto to PayPal for online purchases for quite some time with little issue. Just make sure you're transacting with someone reputable if you choose to trade with PayPal, as there is a 180-day timeframe where a transaction can be reversed on PayPal.

There's no need to call them Bitcoin hater when you don't know the other side of the story. May be they are afraid that somehow the security of their platform can be compromised due to linking it with any Bitcoin related site. So, tell me now, who wouldn't want to keep their own business safe? If you put yourself in their shoes, they have done the right thing in my opinion.

Unlikely from you, I would call them haters because this hosting service provider with godaddy is pure shit. They offer unlimited space but if you exceed 500mb, you get a warning from them (I was developer and had many websites).
OP personally I like namecheap, resellerclub and hostnine too but first one is better in overall. Also germany based hosting providers like hetzner aren't strict.

There you go! One project, and it wasn't even the ones I was thinking of. It features right here in this investment "experiment" LoyceV's hosting and seems to be one of the ones not entirely flailing in the altsea. Really erratic trading volumes and prices since the last 2 months. Can't say I've used any of them, really. My hosting and registrar affairs barely run into double-digit dollars.

I do see use case, just not sure if it's mainstream enough to convince people to switch over. I generally lump alts into one corner never to be looked at or used, but you're not wrong to point out old projects that actually did genuinely try to do things different.
