This is another step for making the spam on the forum lesser. A merit is not that hard to get if you really want to get one and participate on signature campaigns.

This newly implemented feature is good for me since Jr. Members who doesn't have merit are demoted to newbies and at the same time, can't participate in signature campaign.

This lessen the spam on the forum at least but the social media reports are still there and it contributes to the spam too. I hope this will be the next thing theymos will solve in the next feature but overall, I like this Smiley.

It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.
Advertised sites are not endorsed by the Bitcoin Forum. They may be unsafe, untrustworthy, or illegal in your jurisdiction.

not all jr.member spamming, but why are we generalized to a newbie, even though many of them are late trying to make good posts, but it's hard now we get merit, are they the ones we fear if many get merit they will feel Compared to the bounty program, I feel that those of us above are worried that if many of us get merit, the amount of prizes from the bounty will decrease because the bounty cursed the pool system, therefore many members here are trading merit and accounts, is this fair, many of them 1 person who has more than 1 account, this is not fair

Due to excessive garbage-posting, you now need 1 merit to be a Jr Member. All existing Jr Members who didn't meet the requirement were demoted. Also, newbies can no longer set any signature or personal text.

Note that this does not affect:
 - PM rate-limiting, which is based purely on activity & whitelisted status.
 - "You must wait ___ seconds...", which is based purely on activity & whitelisted status.

But it does affect:
 - Voting in polls
 - Patroller jurisdiction
 - The "ignore newbie PMs" option.
 - "The body is omitted from this email because the sender is a newbie."
 - BBCode limits
 - Reduced-accuracy link filtering
 - Board restrictions

Many of these limitations can be eliminated with a copper membership. In particular, you can set a signature at Member level if you wear a copper membership.

One reason that I was hesitant to do this before is that there are an awful lot of newbie restrictions, and I don't want the forum to be unwelcoming to good newbies. I'll think about tying some of those to activity instead of rank in the future.

With help from DdmrDdmr, I just added 36 new merit sources, which should help newbies achieve the requirement. But if you're incapable of posting anything worthwhile, then you will never rank up, and you shouldn't: this isn't the forum for you.

Welcome development to fight spammers, but what about those Who got burnt and weren't spammers, and also most merit holders don't seem too be that caring enough to share, 95% of my posts has also contributed to topic in discussion, like I said its a welcome development And I support it.

I LOST MY SIGNATURE SIR ON CAFECOIN  IN THIS KIND OF ISSUE IM AFFECTED
If you only creating bounty reports throughout your life then you will never get ranked up,try to create some useful posts and your rank will be updated soon, that is only one merit needed man.Now the task will be less tough since we have 36 new merit sources who will help the good posters to rank up."Try to learn how to surf with the waves or you will be drowned"

While I'm affected by this change, I support the moderator's decision.

This will minimize spam and account farming in bitcointalk.
Merits are hard to comeby and increasing rank is really difficult nowadays.

I think the "control" of spam and for those account farmers trying to get multiple accounts for bounties should be managed by the account / ICO projects doing bounties (KYC is needed).
That protects the interest of the project by protecting the ico participants by preserving value of the token (bounty hunters are known to dump coins) and for the betterment of post here in bitcointalk.

Fresh start. Though honestly if only higher rank member are fair enough to rate everyone-- but thats not the case, ive seen 1 liner being merited. Still has some flawed but somehow lessen alt account abuser.

I quite agree with you, most merit holders don't want to share because they don't want more people competing with them on signature bounty campaigns

Thanks admin, that's it I request from began. Due to merit implementation account farming will reduce as well. This is the real time implementation.

One reason that I was hesitant to do this before is that there are an awful lot of newbie restrictions, and I don't want the forum to be unwelcoming to good newbies. I'll think about tying some of those to activity instead of rank in the future.

I don't think rules are much harder for quality poster. Nothing awful for good user. Even a good user can earn 1 merit first day ( IMO).

Admins!!! What you have done will lead to the fact that now massively will sell merit and who will not share it! Or you are interested in it themselves( to sell merit)? What you have done I believe is illegal! Think again, while the community has not found another forum!!!

Wow..... This is a very shocking improvement. Notwithstanding, it's to encourage demoted members like myself to sit up and do more. Thanks for the constant improvements to make the platform more healthy in terms of circulated info.

The truth is just that some of you are so lucky to have reach member , lengendary and other rank before all this start to happen is not as if some of you post something worthwhile during your own days. And I remember years ago some of you only post and post to climb up and making life difficult for new members doesn't really make any sense to me.

The problem is that, the merit could be earned by exchanging through bitcoins. The admin has a point for the quality post but there are rich people will just buy merits for BTC. Started from `Evil IPs`which is now so called copper member and making merit as a `Demand`. Superb. Smiley But there are tons of multi account out there with lots of merits so lucky. Cry I'm crying right now.

I see the truth that the merit holders will massively sell their merits. It's like a commodity to trade rather than commend useful articles right now. Can you rethink this?

I have 386 and 196 activities that wasn't easily gotten. Only to be demoted. People don't share merit anymore I know because of the massive influx of persons in btt. If this affect you , you could be smiling but people that has worked and for no fault of theirs didn't cross over need a little leniency. 200 acitivities for a merit is still a good option . They can pursue other merits from Jr member

I want to add! Cryptocurrency is made for decentralization and the forum should be the same, and with your new rules you make your forum centralized!!!
