It isn't how the merit system is supposed to be used. You're supposed to use it to reward a post you think is constructive, engaging, etc, but certainly not for rewarding someone for a task completed and not to replace the facebook like button. This is totally absurd and misusing the system

Well, the task is to post good and useful (maybe also funny) comments. If your posts are good enough, you'll get a Merit (or two). And I think the adding of more Merit sources / more Merits for the existing Merit sources will produce a better flow of sMerits. Dinner is served

There is no need to change the new rules, i like it cause many people abuse the forum with their multiple account has gone.

Just make some good/constructive post i believe some member will give you merit.

Your words seems to be true, it is not giving a merit, but actually rewarding a merit that makes a quality post. However i can also see some unnecessary replies and comments out of the topic that gained merit. That's why there are also complaining on how merit really goes.

This is giving us (at least me) a clear insight into this matters because of some question left in my head after the new additional of merit system, such as :
1. If merit is so hard to get, all newbie will be at meta, but it is only a fraction of them. It indicates that other newbie account is just an alt-accounts to newbie who comes up in here, or some just dont care.
2. Why does this newbie who come to here think 1 merit is a nearly impossible task? Simple. Because they have a lot of accounts, that is why it is hard. Making good content in a lot of accounts is hard and buying merits for all of their account is expensive.

Isn't helping members and making a good contribution is a simple task? It is only 1 merit, come on !

Please understand more about the value of merit. I think it is not a reward for the task. Get it the most natural way.
