I have setup the CPU miner on a few spare systems.  On an Intel i5 Laptop, its getting 150 Kh/s  but on my AMD threadripper 1950x its only getting 93 kh/s.  Any advice?  Or are the miners not optimized for AMD CPUs?

Try by running it on Ubuntu and use the AVX2 version that can be found at https://github.com/ProjectMerge/cpuminer-merge/releases
