Not necessarily required but if it's a woman who could best do the job then give it to a woman. It's gender equality after all and not female preference.

This question on its own rigs of 'social gender-stereotyping'.
The corporate world has advanced by braking away from the primitive gender stereotyping of attributing certain specific roles to a particular gender.
Equal or more opportunities have been presented to women of late to empower themselves to e able to compete with anyone.
So as far as a person, male or female, however in this case, a female is qualified, there is nothing stopping such a person, all things eing equal.

Requiring women or a minority for a job just creates more racism.  The position should simply go to the most qualified person regardless of gender, race , or religion.

I think there should not be a fixed quota of how many women should be in the management, board and so on. The person who fits the best should be on the job.

The problem is, that in upper management jobs are dominated by men. And men have the tendencies to e.g. vote other men into a board, even if a woman would fit better.

There are lot of studies showing the positioning of a woman as a ceo helped enterprises to increase their revenue and decrease fluctuation and increase employee satisfaction in general, which is crucial nowadays imo. Holding on to your coworkers and keeping them happy is key for motivation and high quality products and services. Furthermore, women tend towards a more long-term orientation and less risky behavior, leading to a healthy and stable growth.

Ia a world of meritocracy people should be judged by their merit (no pun intended), not by their gender. This trend could easily ruin companies (as it already did with some game-developers), as incompetent people will be working instead of competent ones, just to fill the quota.
