Yeah he will need bodyguards. But he won't use his bitcoin because that will blow his cover for sure. So it's one of those go to the grave with your secrets kind of situations.

I feel really bad for Satoshi. He seems like a decent guy and obviously brilliant.

There are a lot of people with a lot more money than him who seem to be able to live without constant fear!

The real question is, how can we help the poor guy if its not him?

People can probably help him by staying out of his life.  However, if he wants that, he would have to publicly give away most of his bitcoins to charity or etc.

Unfortunately he lives in CA. That is going to make body guarding him difficult. You can't even carry a gun in that backwards state. A law not obeyed by criminals.
Or maybe he does not need help? We don't actually know if Satoshi owns any bitcoins, though it seems likely.

So, a quick google search later, we get....

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/news/10680492/Has-Bitcoin-creator-Satoshi-Nakamoto-been-found.html

If Dorian Prentice Satoshi Nakamoto is in fact the man behind the original code, then he's not who I thought it was.  There is at least one other person who had the time, skills, and motivation to have done it, and I don't see any specifically crypto background for this guy.  OTOH, being both the son of a Buddhist priest and someone who's worked in the defense industry would explain certain aspects of our "Satoshi's" personality.  Karma's a bitch, as they say.

I can't claim that it isn't him, but I sure as heck wouldn't take it at face value that he is, either.

The good news is that our Satoshi hasn't done anything overtly asshole with his money or power, and he's stayed out of the public eye, so the odds of a random assassin going after this Satoshi are actually fairly slim.

The man has the private keys to bitcoins worth hundreds of millions of dollars.  He is absolutely at risk.

Beyond trouble.

If true he might have the highest concentration of easy to access/steal wealth on the planet.

Where else can you kidnap someone and force them to reveal a passcode to move $400,000,000 across the world?

There are no other targets for such a easy take that cannot be reversed. This is insane.

Exactly, with fiat or gold you would physically need to move the money you robbed which is a lot more difficult when we talk about 400 million dollars, or about 9 metric tonnes of gold.

Even compared to stealing paper stocks/bonds it's not the same. A low net worth millionaire could pay someone who is poor in russia to come over and get the keys and then kill himself. The poor guy sends the bitcoin to an address before committing suicide.

What just happened? Well now the poor guys family get some money and the millionaire is now a potential billionaire. This original millionaire could have even threatened the poor guys family.

Anyway, there is no need to escape the country or state with a ton of paper bonds. It's all gone in seconds.

Also it's better than stealing money via wire transfer. A lot of rich people (even gates) don't have $400,000,000 in cash waiting for a long drawn out potentially reversible wire transfer.

I am not exaggerating, this guy is in for some crazy trouble. And if Bitcoin keeps going up this location will become a prime target for all criminal masterminds.

The sad thing is whether or not this is Bitcoin's Satoshi, he would be in the same amount of danger. It's coincidentally like money, where if enough people believe it, it becomes de facto true.

If this isn't the real Satoshi(which I think it is), then he's screwed, and if possible, I hope he can sue Newsweek..

If this is the real Satoshi, and he has all million Bitcoins in his possesion, then I say, deposit all of it to Fiat, pay for 100 bodyguards and move to Cheyenne Mountain. Cause there are some loco Bitcoiners out there, not to mention crooks.

I feel bad for him.  If he has a plan, Im sure it has already been put into action.  I also doubt that someone can simply rob or hack him of the coins/wallet.  From what the article said he is extremely cautious and over-the-top security with everything.  Id like to think that he has them set up somehow to only pass down to his kids Smiley

Can't even carry a bazooka either.  Or a hand grenade.  Or chemical weapons for hunting purposes.  Damn.  What a backwards state.  How's a guy supposed to go on a school shooting with such backwards laws?

To be fair;

The naming and shaming done by newsweek paints a great bullseye on him ( Innocent dude, remember that).
But even that he is not our Satoshi, we need should let everyone know: He is under community protection from now on.

The message I got from the article was that the only thing that he had to actually lose (assuming that his private keys etc are stored in a super safe place) is his privacy - which this article has completely blown out of the water, regardless of whether he is the Satoshi Nakamoto.

I mean his health is apparently not so great, he is disconnected from his family, his Bitcoins are probably secured, possible even inaccessible. The only thing he seems to want is the privacy to go about the things he wants to do.

I've no doubt made some assumptions in saying this but, to me, anything he had to lose, he has already lost thanks to this article.

His family could be in danger though, who knows. Hope that he and his family remain safe.

Glad to hear you say that.
Since he is under community protection then we should ALL donate some BTC to protect him.

Did anybody even try to make a such statement?

This will definitely give some food for thoughts for the ones who are trying to crush Bitcoin.

Let's get one of the more senior members on the forum to provide adresses.
I'll donate. This shit is just retarded. Some guy, named Satoshi, gets in a lot of shit because one news agency claims he is 'the' Satoshi. Well, he is not, and got a bulleye painted on him. If I could donate some BTC, and some trusted forum member could provide an adress. And with that BTC, just hire a security detail to post at his house. The dude needs protection from now on, let's provide some. (If anyone is in the general area, and is willing to make connections a priv. security company, Please do!)

To be fair;
He is not Satoshi, but he might need some community help.

The naming and shaming done by newsweek paints a great bullseye on him ( Innocent dude, remember that).
But even that he is not our Satoshi, we need should let everyone know: He is under community protection from now on.

Glad to hear you say that.
Since he is under community protection then we should ALL donate some BTC to protect him.

Did anybody even try to make a such statement?

This will definitely give some food for thoughts for the ones who are trying to crush Bitcoin.

What do we say?: [quotes Gandalf the Gray (at the time)]
Thou shall not pass!

I AM LOOKING FOR A SENIOR OR HERO MEMBER TO HELP ME ON THIS.

This guy will get in trouble, and if we don't respond quick then we do not deserve the Satoshis we have.
Simple!
