Evolution of rank names

Did satohsi decide the rank names or have they been done individually since then?
Also, has it always been Brand new, newbie, jr member, member, full member, sr member, hero member and legendary member or were there any changes along the way in order to reach this? (Reason I ask is that the 'full member' rank title to me always looks a bit out of place and trange in comparison to all of the other rank titles)?

Actually "Full Member" Rank was in place when Theymos decided , that he need one more rank between Jr.Member and Full Member rank. So he created the "Member" Rank. Sounds weird but it is true.

Legendary is not too common IMHO. Especially after merit is introduced, we will have very few legendary is coming years...

It's already far too common. Any shitposter who has just been here a couple of years prior to the merit system became one and it's mostly meaningless when that happens.

There were 2144 Legendary users based on a few stats published 2 months ago in this[1] thread. The number should be pretty much the same (with maybe just a few new Legendaries) since you need a lot of merit to rank up and it has been only 2 months.

There is no use of brand new member. I think brand new member is necessary. Also @op probably you have forgot to mention few paid membership eg: donator, VIP, copper. Though I do not know when it was added either on beginning or after few days/months/years.

If so, few legendary will be able to go higher rank. But many legendary will be on same point for merit

I dunno why you got demoted hilariousandco, maybe that means theymos is going to bring it in as a new membership in the next few weeks and needs you to be just a boring old copper member? (or maybe he did something to the database that he couldn't fix or something ).

EDIT: I have decided the the members' search has a display limit of 34 boxes (probably because I used to like to do a members search of * and other wildcards when the full list wouldn't show - alright it worked but)...

There won't be any good in making a new rank, much like there wasn't much good in making a member rank as satisfied didn't make it so no one will aim for it .
I agree that mythical is a bad name but legendary and hero are also kinda lame too...

I was thinking or maybe theymos did. Maybe one day a silver, gold and platinum member can be bought too in this forum. Just a pure speculation though, but who knows?

I don't know, it's not a horrible title, but it does go along the lines of Legendary in its blandness.  There have been threads about this before, but I can't recall exactly what names have been suggested and I don't recall having heard many that I was really enthusiastic about.

At one point I absolutely thought there probably should be at least one more rank above Legendary, since with time the number of Legendaries would be huge and there wouldn't be much that was special about it.  Now, with these merit requirements that are going to have noobs pulling out their hair for years, I'm not so sure about that.  Even lower-ranked members who aren't shitposters are having a hell of a time ranking up to Sr. Member or Hero, much less Legendary.  At this point a higher-ranked title means more than ever.

Actually a rank above the legendary is needed to ensure the introduction of merit system's effectiveness because as others said if someone shitposting for years will be a legendary now but if they never earned any merits since the introduction of merit system then they don't deserved to be in the top of ranks.I hope a rank above the legendary will be implemented in future which needs 2000 merits and the name of rank might be Elite member or something like that.

I was thinkin about this, it might have been nice to demote everyone a bit at the start of the merit system as I don't feel like I've earnt my rank as much as some people like Jet Cash and even others who have ranked up to legendary from 0.
It is true that people have been short-changed by the merit system and there are some users here who actually stand out quite a bit who aren't getting anywhere near the amount of merit they need for their activity (I'm sure there's a full member I have seen quite a bit in the meta section posting good quality stuff and still only on about 100 merit and 300 activity).... Unless they've only just turned good then it is quite sad to see that this is happening.

I'd say just "Legend" sounds good. Or maybe just add a bold font to the current Legendary rank.

It's actually pretty good.  

Maybe they could do something with the color of those coins you get on top of your username--maybe change them to red or some other color, and perhaps make that a function of merits?  That would make users stand out from the pack.

I'd suggest that for every extra 250 merits you get another of those semi-coloured coins next to your name, ending with the legend title at 2000 merits.

Maybe also onec they come up with a design for how good people are at reporting posts (or at least how many good reports they have) we could think of something theymos would have in mind and likely accept for an additional merit coloum as a printed score takes a lot longer to look at than an icon "an image says a thousand words" can be true in this case (or at least a certain number of digits)...

Nice.  I like these suggestions even more than adding another rank.
