I see alot of altcoins and tokens been introduced into the market every day and I keep wondering if that is how this industry will keep growing.  The number of altcoins does not translate to increase in the over all market capitalization of the cryptocurrencies market and it that means that some of the coins we currently have in the market is not needed!

Sure there can be many altcoins that can be introduced in the market and it may confuse some users or take some share in the current state of it, however just remember that it will still be up to the demand of that coin or token whether they can be successful and will stay in the market. Alot of them are currently dying while market bleeds . There was an article where was graph with all ICOS in 2017 and how many ETH , BTC they collected . Today almost all of them spent / sold collected funds . So it means they dont have funds for developing project further . They're all looking to grab their little slice of the pie. 99.99% of the altcoins are not needed, they are just niche implementations of more diverse platforms such as ETH and EOS. There needs to be a serious cull of these trashcoins, and I think over the next couple of years we will definitely see the vast majority of these get close to a $0 market cap.

Almost 700 of these coins have a monthly trade volume under $100,000 ergo, they are pretty much dead.

This is going to keep getting worse until 99% of all coins have no trade volume, don't feed the trend, ignore trash new coins that offer nothing new. If they are a niche coin or have limited expected utility, o not pay it any attention, and don't even invest to dump later as you're just detracting funds from the main contenders.

With that being said that new altcoins are being created every day, I'm sure that there are altcoins "dying" every day. There's not much fanfair for coins dying, but they may get abandoned by developers and their price goes to virtually zero. It's unlear how many cryptocurrencies we actually need... maybe just a handful or maybe we need to tokenize the whole world. Too many competition might have some good side, but it does have some serious drawbacks. Too many altcoins can often create a mess in the market, lower the price as there will be many coins of a similar feature and many coins flop as there are available coins of similar use and feature. you are right, too many meme coins are now present in the market. they are popular because of the growing community on social media. but it does not strengthen their market because they buy only to come out with a small profit. high hype is their goal, and supporting such a project is not long-term. That's what makes many new projects now unable to last long. after the hype they will soon be discarded.

Your question why those coins are listed and that they shouldn't be on Coinmarketcap as you imply goes back to a very important core principle of cryptocurrencies. This principle is called censorship-resistance. Should Coinmarketcap decide who gets visibility and who does not? Would you like that? I am very skeptical of your position and I know it is up to me as a user and an investor to give my vote for a coin or be neutral towards a coin that I just don't like and ignore it.

Considering the fact that you don't really need to pass any qualification to make a coin, it is not surprising anymore that there are a lot of altcoins being made. Nevertheless, for sure such coins are mostly useless cause it is quite impossible that lots of coins are existing and all of them are useful. The price movement will surely be affected if that's the case, also not everyone is fond of supporting altcoins so it is not really surprising seeing lots of dead coins or meme coins regardless of the increase in number of altcoins.

Only few percentage of these thousand alts has active development. Most of them are already dead and long time abandoned. So even if new alts are coming up, still few of them will survive. It is better to see new projects because we will see which of them will indeed end up realizing their objectives. There are so many industries to explore, this is why we have seen various projects. I think the number of altcoins affect the market somehow negatively. Most of these coins are useless and were created only for pump and dump purposes. It means investors lose money by investing on these altcoins that are largely promoted on social medias to newbies. Situations like this give a bad impression to investors who will avoid crypto market futurely, especially those people who were recently reffered to crypto universe and don't understand it with expertise.

Anyway, there is nothing to do about it, because we are in a decentralized market and each person can create their own altcoin if they wish without any obstacles.

I would say we have all been subject to scams in the past and the learning curve that comes with it. I made some bad decisions too and I don't feel ashamed for it. In fact it was good that it happened early, it shaped my perception what to pay attention to and today I would say I am a better investor in crypto thanks to the mistakes I made in the past.

Come back and check this topic in 5 years and you will be shocked. There will be even more and more coins created every single day, look at coinmarketcap and you will see that there are nearly a coin a day and probably more in most other days, and that is just coinmarketcap and I know a ton of other coins and tokens that did not get listed in coinmarketcap neither. At the end of the day if you are not listed at all that means you are not checked at all neither so I remove all of that, but even still with that cmc has so many coins, even while delisting some of them.

Long story short there will be more and more coins every year, there will be at least a thousand coins where over a thousand people invested every single year, in 5 years that means over 5 thousand projects with a million joined (overlap of course, one person can join multiple) so that is never good for us in financial sense. However this allows improvements and show us all the new stuff so that's good.

The shilling by big personalities you mentioned is indeed a big problem. I remember when projects paid a lot of money to reputable people on Twitter who then tweeted about those coins. I fell for one project I remember where a person tweeted and I thought it should be legit because he wouldn't otherwise do that. My fault to trust more or less blindly. with enough money you can probably convince almost anyone to shill your project on social media channels.

I think about the Altcoin phenomenon that has recently emerged, there are hundreds of Altcoins currently entering the crypto market, it's easy to create Altcoins now and plus pandemics, I consider this one of the factors people who know crypto try to trade at home by creating Altcoins to trade, that's my thought.

From a business perspective it was also the best move Binance could do. Comparing to last bullish on 2017-2018 back then looks like current bullish was really giving some good exposure to the global market, The total Known Altcoin doubled with only 3 Years span and this was really good for the crypto market even though some of altcoin out there just an Pump & Dump Scheme or another exit scam but we can also see some good altcoin with Real use case out there Especially last 2 Years with DeFi, NFT, Decentralized Storage, CDN, etc. Well, Let's hope the quantity & quality will increase in the future!
