It was 2017, after a summer of sky-rockets hitting x20 and even more, when Wabi, a Chinesse ICO that basically provided no info on the real use of its token and had what was possibly a WP made by a 8 yr'ld kiddo armed with safety scissors and a non-toxic glue stick managed to get an oversubscribed ICO kicking o x43 two days after it's launch.

Yeah...those times.. It was about then when I wandered the Blockchain panorama with some ether, far closer to the single than the triple digits, bought after a fight to death with Kraken's Cloudflare and 404s with, at the time, a useless trading system, trying to make some sense of why all this precarious ventures were actually growing far beyond reason and, needless to say, searching for my chance to take advantage.

And then, I came across this ICO. Let's call it the F token just to have it named. F token has a cool page, properly built, excellent team. The White Paper is very professional, no trace of a misspelled word, the team is public and impressive,.... SBSP - Solid Business & Solid People. When the day comes I am ready. The recent gas wars have showed me that being a minute late is being a minute too late and having 100 wei in the gas price of your MEW becomes a must to get into the good ones. Three, two, one... there it goes my unreasonable amount of ETH

I could write at large about the next months, full of Telegram messages with elusive answers, half truths, red coloured numbers  ending up in hope, despair, anger, sadness and finally, acceptance. Yet rather than that, I will simply say that I still hold that token, rotten and buried - if bytes can rot - among hundreds of 0x transactions - worth less than a cheap burger in a no-go borough of this city.

And you may think that I am just an irredeemable hodler, unable to accept that it's gone forever, but I know better: That token is still in there as permanent reminder of what I went through out there in the new frontier, where dreams are born and slaughtered in the blink of an eye and even the wisest can be blinded by the glitter of a ethereal Bitcoin.

it must be an experience that you always remember, so you can learn to be better from the previous experience you have  Cheesy

Well, you learned the most important rule of cryptocurrency world: there are no rules!

I wish you good luck and hope you'll find coin that will go x100 or more.

It's like fishing - you can be well prepared, read all the guides and catch nothing.

Hey man, don't shit on Wabi! It's a solid project lmao.

For me, that token is Simdaq. Worth absolutely nothing now despite the team trying desperately to market their product and build the charts with wash trading. I still hold on to remember the mistake of blindly following personalities on Twitter. I normally practice solid discretion but SMQ was a lapse in judgement that I will not make again.

No offence intended, I could have chosen any other of that time. Best luck with the project.

Thanks Smiley I hold a bit of Wabi, but I don't consider myself a major supporter by any means.

I do think there is a lot of merit behind the working Wabi product which is fighting against counterfeit goods which have had disastrous consequences in the region of the world it currently services. Counterfeit formula has been very dangerous in the past, as has counterfeit medicine and cosmetics has been, and it's impactful and certainly worthwhile that a project is looking to provide a beneficial service to these niches.

But strictly as an investment- I understand why there can be doubts about the WABI token.

What's that popular saying again Grin was it "Forget about the past and move on into the future", or is it "keep the past as a remembrance in the future"? Oh now I'm confused. Well keeping that token might be the best way to learn from that experience while other moving on forgetting about the token might just work for them, that's just life.

I remember that during the bullrun in December 2017 it was shilled even by some "Crypto Twitter Influencers", and obviously on 4chan and a bit less on reddit.

The ICO craze time was fun though, good times... Cry

Have fun reading the post. It doesn't really feel like you sound frustrated but yes you lose it all.

I do have same experience which right now I also have to token still. Not Wabi but something else, the price took a nose dive after it while I just watch the money I got from $120K down to less than $20k I lose it all but I still have my hope after all the team is working good and its a utility token.

Nice story. And I too have more than 5 tokens which are basically dead without any utility on my wallet.

Luckily, I never invested any money in this space, and just make my way doing trading and stuff, so the feeling of 'betrayal' isn't that much worse. I know some people who go that far selling their assets or looking for a loan and buy tokens at the ATH or invest in ICO, failing to the promise of x20 in 2 months, with little to none understanding about cryptocurrency or investment in general. They killed themselves in the end. Pretty sad.

I enjoyed reading your piece, well written. It reminded me also of those F Tokens that were already buried somewhere in my head. Oh well, those were the days  Cheesy

You knew them personally and they killed themselves just for losing money? very bad..

I've also made some bad decisions, Oyster Pearl for example. The founder exit scammed just before KYC was required on Kucoin. Now their team has created a new token called Opacity. fingers crossed.

There was a time when ICOs were something to look at, each ICO was giving something and after a short gap after gap I was getting some profit, then there comes the period of middle 2018 crypto market started crashing and still continuing, dreams were shattered but not I am , I am still holding my coins with me, I am not going to give it for a burger, I am hopeful to get the market back on track, I am sure blockchain technology will be a revolution in financial world.

Many of us experienced the same thing. There is only few people who don't invest , sadly we are part of those project that is going to be buried soon. Lessons learned and hope this will be your drive to success.
