Enable the option noted here.

Ok thanks for the reply & the link. I would have never found that!  I added it & restarted the pi as directed in that post & will now wait & see. Not sure what is supposed to happen but i can research that setting. It's been crashing daily so shouldn't take long.

Btw deja vu flashbacks seeing miaviator in those 2014 posts. Shocked

... Btw any idea what the heck is causing this crash running cgminer with 1 newpac at 200mhz?  my pi is dead to the world. Can't login or anything I have to power cycle it.

[...]

I use multiple Raspberry Pi devices for mining and I see this type of error a lot. It almost always comes down to the SD card and/or the power supply. If it happens once a day around the same time, I would bet it is the SD card. The device is probably trying to run some cron job and the file systems takes a dive due to SD card issues causing a kernel panic.

Casual Miner: 3x 2PAC, 3x Moonlander 2, and 2x Apollo
Retired HW: 2x AntMiner S7-LN, 5x AntMiner U1, 2x ASICMiner Block Erupter Cube, 4x AntMiner S3, 4x AntMiner S1, GAW Black Widow, and ZeusMiner Thunder X6

Thanks for the response. So far the crashes stopped since adding the config change recommended by vh few posts back. Could be coincidence we'll see but it was crashing at least daily before.  I'll keep this in mind though.

Yea, not all SD cards are the made the same. I would look at an A1 or A2 rated MicroSD if you're using it for more than file storage. I run a full node on a 256 microSD with zero issues.

Hi Gekko community,

Greetings and Happy New Year 2019!

Started the year with my 1st Gekko Newpac trees planted in my 1st plot of Orico 7 port hub with 4 tree sticks, and started harvesting electro-fruits into CKpool. Hope to reap some profit$ at the end of season.

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8ZVPm-KR9I9dG5sSzA2b1QxS1ptTF9GVkI0TndrU1RKVEhN

This is the mining screen shot to share, running only at conservative frequency at 125 Mhz. with average hashrate of 100GH/s and with cooling fans.
** Tried over clocking at 128Mhz(actual-131.25Mhz) and 130Mhz (actual-131.25Mhz) and the average hash rate dropped to about 80GH/s and sticks started resetting and restarting till I have to exit and re-plug in. Guessed I need better, bigger and cooler brushless fans ....

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1jqsCto5--4KIo6XIUu1k3AVFCpuHzoib

Thank you for all your contribution here, and got me started.
Hope to share more of my experience soon too...

Take care and have a great week, Grin

Looks like your orico hub hasnt got enough juice to keep your sticks going. Whats it rated at? 30w across all ports? My plugable 7port hub with external power is drawing 30w with two sticks at 450m. So if yours are drawing say 10w each then maybe a bigger more powerful hub is needed. Invest in a gekkoscience one and you cant go wrong.

Appreciate your guidance, and you're right.
The Orico 7 port hub ext. adaptor is only pumping in additional 5V/2A + USB3.0 another 5v/2A so each only have 1A can't even charge a tablet.
Still on trial testing, will make the change as advise.

Will need to invest in a bigger plot of healthy organic hub with better pumping juice and proteins into this trees sticks... Wink

Thank you very much... Smiley

Check out the hub topic, GekkoScience recently added new high powered 6 port hub. (they are 7 ports, but only 6 have the juice for overclocked mining)

Hi folks,

I'm thinking to introduce "Home Bitcoin Mining" into homes to my friends and relatives, and wonder what would be the best and low cost setup & configuration ...  Cheesy

Assumption, keeping electric bills and fire hazard risk low from Low (min. no. Gekko sticks) to High (max. no. Gekko Sticks) output.

1. Run from a low cost refurbished i5-Gen 4/5 CPU with a small screen laptop with <45W adapter with min 2 ports USB 3.0 SS.
2. USB 3.0 10 port hub with 5V/2.1A each port. (actually how many hub ports or Gekko Sticks can 1 laptop USB port handle?) ...  Huh
3. Gekko Newpac BM1387 USB sticks.
4. Brushless cooling fans.
5. 6 fans laptop cooling pad.
6. AC extension sockets.
7. Winding and cooling locations, no rain or water risk.
8. Standby ABC types hazard fire extinguisher.
9. Running 24/7
10. Others not mentioned... like mining to my bitcoin address for a start...  Roll Eyes

Also, from where I am .... is always sunny so solar energy is one great consideration, and even use Peltier cooling chips generating drinking water too .... hehe  Grin

Anyone to feedback and comments, even to scrutinize is most welcome...  Grin
Share some photos of setups would be great!

Thank you.  Smiley

According to the wattmeter the hub is pulling 30.2w. They are still running stock voltage havent tried turning them down yet as knowing my luck they will just start getting errors.

Thats the spirit of bitcoin, share and tell till your friends and family are sick of hearing about it!  Wink

I dont know about the laptop but we are working on a setup (still a few minor bugs) running on a GekkoScience base Hub, our dual fans in a modified stand kit and a raspberry pi. Its a modified version of Minera but that may change as its giving me fits.

The Pi's our primary option because they have a nice 7 inch touch display so the entire unit can be small form factor and all in one. plug in power and hook it up to your Ethernet (or wifi) and off you go. The pi and the fans draw power from the hub, keeping it a nice little bundle. Our interface is still in development but if you dont mind a little work, you could cobble it together yourself as well.

Appreciate your sharing, and I am getting them interested showing off my Bitcoin account... hehe  Cheesy

Pi will be my next platform to test but presently have no confidence yet to set it up even I have already purchased the required inventory as this will definitely save on electricity especially it cost about USD0.17 from where I am...  Sad

Started with Windows 10 form factor as it seems easier not for the tech savvy, and has USB3.0 ss seems stable and much faster mining, and now looking into getting the industrial heavy duty USB3.0 ss 20 ports 5V/2.1A each to run all my available Gekko Newpac, at higher frequency.

Thank you for your sharing, and learning thru' reading, testing all the configurations as mentioned in this thread. Smiley

All my sticks run off my older laptop in my home office powered by my desktop PSU. I have two hubs running 3 newpac, and 6 2pacs. Pretty quiet with corsair fans https://www.corsair.com/us/en/LED-Color/Fan-Size/Package-Quantity/ml-config/p/CO-9050044-WW. Their overclocked but I'm not at the point were I'd worry about fire but the extinguisher is handy here as well. A couple 2pac still zombie on me which I haven't been great at checking them that often, newpac have had zero issues outside not being able to use asic boost through a hub.

Hi Folks,

Just sharing some experiments and thoughts in overclocking the Gekko Newpac Sticks.

As I have no idea where to probe the measuring points so I got the stick connected through a USB 2.0 functional tester to understand and know the Voltage and current drawn by the stick when the potentiometer is tweak.

https://imgur.com/a/HmJkk8A
Orico USB 3.0 7-ports hub just for experiment while waiting for the industrial hub.

Understand that on doing this way, there are other variables and factors involved such as room temperature, cooling fan capacity rpm, hub limitation, etc.

So please correct my understanding in my findings.

1. each Gekkoscience Newpac have it's own unique characteristics in Voltages and Current.
2. expansion hubs do make a lot of difference, it needs to supply a stable 5V and provide at least 2.1mA.
3. each time the Sticks are plugged into different hubs it needs to be tweaked for optimal result.
4. tweeting method is to adjust till to Max. Voltage allowable just before it triggers into sudden high/low current
All these depends on the power and stability of the USB Hub.
(So investing in a industrial type of multi port hub such as Gekkoscience USB2.0 7-ports or Sipolar USB3.0 12V/5A 20-ports does affect the performance of the sticks, also the cooling fans...)
5. tool used make a difference, use a ceramic tip flat head and not the normal steel screw driver.
6. make a mark on the potentiometer as a start point.
7. as for my setup, the USB2.0 functional tester needs to be hold firm when tweaking.
8. record the readings, stick GSH, MHz, Volt, Current, temp, before(default value) and after tweak.

After checking through my Newpac inventory, all has it own characteristics with the present test setup and limitations:
Some are at a low 4.5V with 0.83A before it triggers.
... some are at 5.03V with 0.76A before it triggers.

But whatever it was... all were able to run at 165MHz (shown 168.75Mhz) with 3 sticks per Orico USB3.0 7-port hub with present resources... however occasionally shows under voltage but still mining accepted ... hehe  Roll Eyes
hash rate;105G to 115G each (win & RPi).

Happy for now...  Grin
As I managed to setup running in both Windows and Raspberry Pi.
(3 sticks plugged in ORICO USB3.0 7-ports 5V/2A ext.+2A USB3.0 each)
