Nah, seems you didn't know what smerit is. Please refer below.

You have Merits, those you cannot send.
You also have sMerits, those you can only send, they have no other purpose.

When someone gives merit to you they lose sMerit of the amount transfered and you gain Merit as well as sMerit (which in case you can send again).

Eg should I send 10 Merit to you for a post, my sMerit would decrease by 10.
Your merit would increase by 10 and your sMerit would increase by 5.

In fact, getting Merit is not impossible, but only if you have to publish articles and emails seriously, and you should try to give others help to get it!

You don't need to create articles or emails, just post substantially and helpful.

Make some useful posts in the healthy discussion and get yourself educated about the crypto currencies rather than spamming with repeated comments in the mega threads.Don't post for getting merit just follow your posting style and keep yourself better at that then later merit will follow up you.

to get Merit for now is very difficult and I am too, but my advice is you have to make a very useful post and is very useful for all bitcointalk forum members with posts that can be really easy to understand.

If you want to gain merits then you have to post more constructive and try to create a helpful topic on the forum, where everyone can wants to provide their valuable comment on it.

Change the way you are replying and improve your post. It doesn't mean that the longer your posts are the higher chance of getting merit. Post to the topics that you know and you are adding value to the discussion. If something helpful you add and someone appreciates your post, expect that it will be merited. Be constructive, quality over quantity and don't post to the topics that you really don't know what they have been talking. Avoid those "great project", "interesting" posts.

Knowing how to get merit is not enough to gain merit, you need to help your self to improve your post quality to earn more merit. Earning merit is takes a time because you need to gather more good information that can help many people here in the forum and post it in precise English to encourage more people to read your post and give some merit to it.

I`m also trying my best to earn merit. The other way to learn more how to earn merit is look the profile of recognize people who earn merit regularly and  make them as good model in the way of how they make a post here in the forum.

I cant really deny that Smerits do really mostly circulate into that place but as being said this place aren't suited for any newbie specially when discussions are way too crucial to understand.
You are just simply making or putting yourself into trouble instead rather than getting a merit if you have posted crappy things out there. Its really hard to get merit and you should not hurry yourself to get one.
Just do your job on posting relevant and contributing replies and you would gain some points unexpectedly.

Merit is the big problem now to rank up because its hard to earn merit now, maybe you need to be good poster here in the forum, make  an informative post and dramatically correct to encourage someone to give some merit to your post.

Even you know how to earn merit by making good quality post is not enough because how you can make good quality post if you dont have enough knowledge, so first you need to gather more knowledge here and help your self to improve to make good quality post to earn more merit.

if you do not speak English well enough you can do it in your local subforum, merits are the same there
also if you speak 2+ languages you can translate useful threads or any other useful info for local communities

Most of threads that are not suitable for everyone is if they don't know what the topic is.

Don't just post to the topics that you don't have something to add and make sure if you are replying, your post are going to add value to the conversation. Post the way you are posting and if someone appreciates and sees that your post is constructive, helpful and deserves to get merit, you'll get it.
