Well if your wallet file will be stolen, then there will no other way for you to recover all your funds in that wallet. Better for you to take it and move on. Once you don't have a back up for that, you cannot access it unless that someone will give it back to you. Well, it would be better if your wallet has another security measures like it will text your phone before someone can open it.

When your wallet file has been stolen, the coins inside your wallet for sure will be gone forever and your wallet is not safe anymore because the next coins to come are possible to be stolen too. It is now to better to change tge wqllet you are using and immediately change the address of the coin you are waiting to receive.

If you still have your passphrase then you may still be lucky to find your coins still intact ,that is if the person that stole it haven't move your funds out ,or else its going to be empty ,stay away from phishing websites and emails

Though it depends on which type of wallet provider such is using. But I think whenever a waller file is been stolen, I think that's the end of the wallet because the hacker is already in control of all the coins and valuable things inside the wallet.

Your wallet gets stolen then there is no way to get back it again. At the same time, you would lose all your funds even next coming coins also be lost which means your wallet will be under control by hackers. So you need to store back up file for taking instant so after being stolen your wallet.

Will the bitcoin are gone forever or there is a way to recover them?
Stolen file can't recover i think because it's already transferred in third party hand and there are no back up. If your password make by numeric word than hacker can't log in your wallet because password is more stronger. As usual random password is very risky to use in sensitive place.

All posts here seem to claim that your coins are instantly lost after the wallet file has been stolen. This is wrong!

An attacker needs access to your private keys in order to steal your coins. Access can be achieved in these ways:
  • Attacker has access to your computer (e.g. through malware) AND you unlock your wallet (with your password)
  • The attacker has a copy of your wallet file AND knows the password

An malicious actor does NOT get access to your private keys by:
  • having access to your computer (e.g. through malware), but your do NOT unlock your wallet
  • having your wallet file WITHOUT knowing the password

The wallet file itself is encrypted (at least that's the recommended way of storing it; protected by a password).
Without the password, the only chance an attacker has.. is to bruteforce it. No password = no access to the coins.

So, if you have chosen a strong enough password which can't be bruteforced efficiently (e.g. 9+ chars, using letters/numbers/special chars), an attacker does NOT gain access to your BTC by simply owning your wallet file.

yes, you can recover them when you have dot dat and passphrase where you keep on another file or disk. because that you must keep your passphrase wallet on another disk like flashdisk, and you have to write passphrase using manual on paper. i am always writed like that and keep it not on my digital.

I have not heard of cases when it was possible to somehow restore the wallet file. probably if you lost a file then you can really say goodbye forever to your savings

Definitely, thats why we need to add more security in lur wallet files. Even on online wallets. That's the main problem of wallet file nowadays, even thou if you have a lot of money already if you lost your file, that will never be restored.

A hacker will usually not just go after your wallet file, he or she will also try to sneak a keylogger onto your computer to get the password you use to access your wallet.

This is why a good anti-virus program with web protection is crucial for Bitcoin and other Crypto currency users, to reduce the chances that a keylogger might be sneaked onto your computer.

A damaged wallet is usually recovered from the Seed that are generated, when you setup the wallet for the first time.  Wink

I think it depends on how your wallet protects you under these circumstances but most of the time if it is stolen, they put money inside your wallet and steal the funds right away and I don't think you will ever recover what you lost.

If you have you magic words you should be able to recover this wallet.

maybe with another provider.
this is a simple matter if we cannot access and maintain our wallets and the results and fill in all the contents will all disappear and cannot be stopped about this in my opinion and in my opinion should prevent theft of the wallet

Unfortunately an anti-virus software doesn't help much.
What AV's do is to compare signatures of applications run with their database.

This means if the AV didn't yet declare this particular application as malware, it won't be treated as malware.

In addition to that.. anyone who properly knows how to code or create malware, does know how to avoid detection by AV's.
The only kind of malware which will be detected by AV's are either (1) unchanged for several months/years or (2) made by a script-kiddie.

Not every wallet does give a (mnemonic) seed to backup.

Core for example doesn't use mnemonic seeds and doesn't explicitly recommend to backup the seed (master private key).
I'd assume that the majority of core user only have file backups (of the wallet.dat).

There's is no way to recover a stolen wallet unless they give it back. We have almost $5m lost Bitcoin that can't be recover. The same apply to you. That's why the most important way here is make your wallet safe all the time.

It's true what some people said above, that the wallet that has been cracked will no longer be recoverable, and if it is possible, of course I will be very happy because I also experienced it. Where all the tokens in my wallet were used up were stolen by everyone. And at that time I was very sad.

there is no way to recover when your wallet is hacked by someone, or you forget the private key. in other words no one can access your wallet anymore.

Your bitcoin will be gone if the one that stole yours found the bitcoins inside of your wallet.
And for the recovery, I think there is no way to recover it unless you remember or save the recovery passphrase.

If the wallet was already stolen there will be no possibilities to recovered unless it will return it back to you. I hope that there will be additional security for our wallet like in every transaction there will be approval key number to our cellphone before transaction proceed to prevent wallet stollen.
If it is already stolen there is no possibility for it to recover because even the wrong transaction is irreversible. You must have to make sure that you have a authentication that connected on your device that can secure your wallet. When your wallet file is stolen you have to transfer all the coin you have into another wallet for it safety and add more security for it.

The question and description are in the different subject, if your soft or hard wallet stolen you can access wallet by a passphrase, and for description, bitcoin is just only some zero one and it will be forever and you can recover it.
