It is worth starting with full-length films, so as not to get lost in the midst of watching, the development in the series may come later than it starts.

And start better with the classics, Hayao Miyazaki

Depends what they're into.

I got into anime through the classic 90s films like Akira, Ghost in the Shell and Ninja Scroll.

You can't go wrong with Death Note, I would say that's one of the best modern anime series.

One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100 are good because they are funny, and have great animation and action too.

Attack on Titan is cool but I'd recommend the others that I mentioned first, just because they're a little more accessible.

There's also some weirder stuff that I love, but I might not show someone who hasn't seen anime before: NG Evangelion, Serial Experiments Lain, Mushishi, GitS SAC, Paprika, Berserk, Basilisk, Samurai Champloo, Urotsukidoji etc.

This is the best list on the thread. Alot of the commenters havent been watching anime for that long. If you havent experienced 80s/90s anime, it's impossible to make a comprehensive list. There's also Cowboy Bepop, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing (my fav gundam), yu yu hakusho, and all of Miyazaki's works (the best ones are the ones that he wrote/directed). And don't forget the original Dragonball series (not DBZ).

Also: "Your Name" is a modern anime film that did really well and has an amazing story! Regardless of their opinions on anime, alot of cinephiles enjoyed this one.

Some of your mentioned Anime are the ones I watched, ever since I was a kid. Like Rurouni Kenshin, Hajime No Ippo, and Grappler Baki. I had fun watching those but now I don't remember it. I just happened to watch the latest remake of Baki the Grappler in Netflix. It's not yet finished but I enjoyed seeing a great animation with better graphics. I hope you guys watch it too.

There is too much to recommend something without knowing your friend likes and dislikes. Try to find out that first from regular movies and shows, then you can make an educated guess of anime from the same genres, then slowly try different but closely related genres.

There are also eras, like classic, 70ies, 80ies, 90ies, 2000s they have certain aspects they might or might not like from. Some people don't like early cgi aesthetics, for example, or cheap hand draw 4:3 aspect ratio with lots of stills when it was so expensive to animate some studios took that shortcut. But you end learning that only after you show them and see their reaction...

Back in the day there was no choice but to show a variety and see their reaction and start recommending based on that. At least now you don't have to send video tapes over mail... But tuday there is SO MUCH anime...

One Piece? Good luck convincing someone to watch a 700+ episode show. Its not bad, typical shounen fights, train, gets stronger and fight again with the usual boring fillers from the overly popular shows... But yeah, there is a lot of people into that like there were into Dragonball back then. If they like that there is a list you can borrow from that genre which is enormous. Fairy Tail, Hunter x Hunter Bleach, just to name a few.

Careful with the hentai, some people become prejudiced against anime if you start people with that, especially the infamous mentioned earlier and another i won't mention here which trolls love to bring to these threads.

I would recommend major, ace of diamond, my hero academia, bleach, code geass, and many more! But if my friend is a fellow bitcoin user and a gambler or a trader, I would highly recommend one out.

What is one out anime?  And why this anime to your fellow bitcoin user?

One out is an anime about baseball and I would recommend this to my fellow bitcoin user because he can relate to it in a way that one out anime is about gambling, and we all know that bitcoin is about trading and gambling. He can relate to it because in trading and in gambling, you aren't really sure if you will earn money or not, and in the anime that is the case for the viewers because you aren't sure if the main character will win, but these things both show one thing, confidence that you will win.
