when the market is decline like this it is very easy to determine a potential altcoin, then how to find them?
you can look for it in the coinmarketcap with the following specifications:

1. Dev always innovates on the project
2. Already listing on several major exchanges
3. The movement does not follow the price of bitcoin
4. Despite market decline but the price did not drop dramatically (tends to be stable)

This is a good one lad. In addition to all that you have stated above, I also look out for coins with circulation supply over 50-40 percent less to the circulation supply. I also consider price difference between its current rate and its rate at months ago it witnessed its last sustained green candles. Calculate the difference and wait for history to repeat itself

All altcoins are presently down, that not withstanding, there are those that have the potential to grow. I will not forget to first mention my favourite coin, despite the attacks it is subjected to at the moment and that is ethereum. Those who might be fortunate to buy i the lowest dip, will be glad they did. Other altcoins are XLM, XRP, ADA, TRON and XYO. You can as well do your own research before investing.

Because of btc's price i can not trust any altcoins for now. Even ethereum. You know about ethereums last price. If eth can hit 130 dollar that means we can not trust anyaltcoins for now. I think btc is the only coin which we can trust for now. After recovery yes you can invest some altcoins like eth or neo but in bear it can be dangerous.

You may want to check on top 20 altcoins. Altcoins have been doing fairly well, we saw significant changes this year especially. Altcoins endured a lot of turbulence and created a trust zone for themselves. We must embrace the potentials as they may come up to BTC's potential in years ahead.

I think the potential of the altcoin is a lot of possibilities. There are a number of quality altcoins and those that are not qualified. And then I believe the altcoin price is strongly influenced by bitcoin. Bitcoin is a guideline for altcoin direction.

Well, you cannot guess which one will mainstream, since you cannot tell what the future would be, but you can at least predict the ones that have the chances of doing so in the long run.

I do not see any shit coin having the ability to even go mainstream as there is nothing to invest in a coin as long as it does not have a usable product and does not look like it has a chance for the real world which is one of the reasons why I believe that so many coins today that are in the market, are really going to be having a hard time to survive eventually.

There are so many fishes in the sea, so the best as an investor is just to do your due diligence and be careful the ones you are trying to pick. Due to the current down trend of entire crypto markets, there are plenty of chances to double or triple our investments by choosing different coins, but we need to take account of risks involved hence being careful and choosing more than 10 coins may help in managing risks.

Well it's no harm if you continue evaluating each coins that you've seen potentials, the market really needs to be well studied, even those top coins inside CMC are really having difficulty while bitcoin are still falling, focus with 3-5 coins and probably hold more bitcoin than holding alts so you will be able to have enough funds when the market for alts start to pumped then you have bitcoin to reinvest and enjoy the growth.
