It would be nice if all the taxes from cryptocurrencies were indeed used for solving environmental issues. For now, though, I think what's more realistic is starting a charity in cryptos for this matter. It might also be a good thing to offer people choice: they can either transfer money to their government as taxes or transfer the same amount of money for environmental issues. Now, the problem is that there are various organizations and no 'world government'. How do we decide who gets to tackle these problems and receives all this money and responsibility? It can't be done. No one will accept that billions of dollars in tax are directed to one thing only. The government have to be responsible with tax funds and divide them in a way that people deem to be appropriate. For some people that might be entirely in to protecting the environment but for others it would be none at all.

This mentality is a such a hindrance to crypto in general. I've been called an idiot on this forum for suggesting that perhaps every industry in the world doesn't have a requirement for blockchain by some users who thought that blockchain will revolutionize literally every industry. There are too many people just spewing nonsense like "increase transparency", "increase efficiency" and "decrease corruption", without offering a single technical detail as to how they plan to achieve all these things. "Focus blockchain on pollution control" doesn't even make sense as a sentence I'm afraid, OP. Blockchain is just a ledger, nothing more. You might as well be saying "Let's focus the Excel Spreadsheets on curing cancer".

To answer the wider point, it's never going to happen. We have the technology and the tax money as it is to protect the environment and deal with pollution. The Environmental Protection Agency was handed a 34% cut in funding, receiving a total of $5.4 billion. Meanwhile the Department of Defense was handed a 13% increase for a total of a whopping $686 billion, 127 times higher than the EPA. The US spends more on defense then the next 10 countries combined. The US could easily start switching to green energy and cutting emissions massively, if there was the political will for it. There isn't. Politicians are bought by big polluters. If and when we reach a point where crypto is consistently taxed, that tax money will follow party lines, as does all tax money.

Of course they will tax, why will they give you possibility to use alternative method and be tax free in some subjects. Also if you see, a lot of things were available in past but once they become abused, governments take control on it, same happens on bitcoin and on altcoins too, they see it's becoming popular, more and more people are moving on it, this isn't what government wants. There is absolutely nothing we can do. Taxes and its usage are the income of the government and they are the supreme authority on what needs to be done with it. So we don't have any control over it.

Definitely we can start expressing our intent through various channels so that it reaches to the highest level of the government, but at the end of the day it's their call to decide. No doubt it is a noble thought but not within our control.

I can tell OP is idealistic and wants blockchain technology to solve a real and serious problem....but environmental protection won't be accomplished by a tax on crypto.  Governments already have the power to alleviate the problem through legislation and law enforcement--it isn't a lack of funds that's keeping the world from being polluted, and governments could tax people all they want, but it just isn't going to help anything. 

This is "ICO thinking" in my opinion, that is, trying to crowbar bitcoin/blockchain tech into problems that need solving but where crypto won't help to solve the problem at all.  If there really is a problem that anything crypto-related can solve, it'll be adopted pretty quickly.  I haven't really seen that happen yet.

Not "will", you are talking about something you think should be done however the topic name has WILL in it which means there was some sort of news that talk about how a government made a decision on making pollution stop with the money funded from the taxes of crypto industry.

There are already pretty big tax reductions on a lot of renewable energy. For example the Solar Tax Credit that allows people to deduct 30% of the cost of installing solar energy from their tax liability. The problem is that renewable energy is just still not close to comparing to non-environmentally friendly solutions in terms of cost efficiency and that's what people care about. Is it for the government to solve or is it for the private sector to make better renewable/clean energy solutions?

Any taxes that governments are able to get out of this market are going to be spent in whatever they want, I do not know how it works in your country but in the country in which I live we not get to choose how the government spends the taxes that they get out of you, it is an interesting proposal to use the taxes that they could get out of cryptocurrencies to help the planet but most likely that is not going to happen.

It's not really up to the crypto industry, or exchanges to enforce this though.

Most regulated crypto businesses already do pay tax, whether it is income tax, or corporate tax. But combating certain problems in the economy or the environment isn't as simple as paying taxes. Who is actually going to take the money, and spend it responsibly?

That's where the government's role come in, and unfortunately, there is absolutely no guarantee that taxes collected by the crypto industry is going to combating pollution, building new schools, or whatnot, especially in third world, corrupt countries. That's just the reality, unfortunately.
