Hello. I started this thread in "BEGINNERS AND HELP" and then wondered if there were any problems or issues with it, because it's oriented toward showing newbies how / what transactions they can do. Also I offer to award merit for on topic posts worthy of merit.

Here is a post I started and then stopped and pulled it, not sure if the direct screen clips and/or specific naming of companies might be considered advertising or advocacy. I don't have any business interests in any of these companies whatsoever, just not sure how much detail should and should not be posted to be in adherence with all the various rule sets.

So is this sort of thing okay?

**** post follows****

VPN is essential to maintaining a shred of privacy on the Internet. Buying it with crypto has obvious advantages. Here is a list of MANY VPN services which accept crypto -

We'll use Private Internet Services as an example, because they support this forum. I'll pick the $69USD for two years service, and I will use Coinbase on an phone app to do the transaction. The transaction fee is 0.06 USD.

Screen clips follow.

*** end of questionable post***

Screen clips would have various things blacked out of course.

I assume that you are referring to these 2 rules that you are not sure about:

Quote
22. Advertising (this includes mining pools, gambling services, exchanges, shops, etc.) in others threads' is no longer allowed, including, but not limited to, in altcoin announcement threads. [8]
In your thread you are planning to use Coinbase as an example, but since you are the OP and not posting in someone else's thread you are not breaking this rule.

Quote
24. Advertisements (including signatures within the post area) in posts aren't allowed unless the post is in a thread you started and is really substantial and useful.
Again, the focus is that you shouldn't make any advertisements in someone else's thread. But since you are making a guide for people to read and use, the thread is both substantial and useful . And besides, you have to use something as an example.

That is just my way of interpreting these rules and I might be wrong so lets see what others say.

I think it all fine, I haven't been in the forum for too long but for the sake of helping out or educating others that shouldn't be a problem... I have seen so many people in here use even external links of different services when explaining and I haven't seen it cause any sort of warnings, bans or accusations.
I have seen your thread it's a good initiative. I hope to learn from it as the conversations continue.

Yeah basically I want to knock these newbies off of thinking of bitcoin as an investment and into thinking at least in part of it as a method of transaction. Last two years there has been a semi-creepy tendency for newbies to be looking at crypto and bitcoin as yet another shiny penny on the stock and investment list. They are often totally clueless about even a simple transaction.

And then I intend to give them merit for expanding on a good transaction or suggesting one.

But I would delete anything that smelled like an add...having said that, opinions might differ on that...

This flaw doesn't only exist among the newbies, but it's an almost accepted norm of being the use of the bitcoin, investment(buy and hodl),and almost everyone is guilty of this
Probably this may be die to the fact that the bitcoins value rose far higher than was ever expected and not to talk about the 20k bubble, this has actually blocked people's idea of other features of the bitcoin, such as it being a medium of exchange
I think with the current use case of the bitcoin,it may be difficult to attain mass adoption

All true, but I'm on the topic of "how can we transact TODAY" and as I have been doing it for five years, but being somewhat of an idiot, lately I noticed not only that newbies were not, but that they were clueless as to how to. And that has consequences.

For example, if one was clueless about transactions, regardless of all they were told about watch out for scammers, it would be impossible.

It's all down to the orientation new recruits get when introduced to bitcoin and cryptocurrency.
They are commonly told it's a means of making easy profit, by simply watching your investments grow, and are not introduced to tbe bigger picture and endless possibilities.

This is very similar to this forum, newbies are told it's a source of income, but they are not giving the bigger picture and hence to do not explore the full potential.
