The reason is because btc is the only coin that can be easily converted to fiat/cash.
Almost all of the alts require that you either buy btc or eth first, then purchase the alt using the btc/eth.

So the worth of your alt is dependent on btc because when you wanted to sell your alt, you first convert it to btc then sell the btc.

The crypto decentralized features should give them more independence, but the situation is the opposite, altcoins have nothing.
