Though I wasnt pretty active lately (more likely on posting-well there hasnt been too much news here lately) but still I was able to visit the forum sometimes and as for giving myself an updates.

As I assume based on my observations, there hasnt been too much shitposting here and there unlike before... And it is also the time that BTC isnt rising up as everyones expects to happen this christmas season.
Users may have the feeling of losing their interest here on forum as they cant see new updates on bounties which can benefit their pockets. Even if there is, rates isnt too much satisfying to grab on.

As soon as bounties starts to rise again together with the market values of all coins these forum will also be flooded again with many syntax of shitposting.

Anyways Merry Christmas To All Of You.
Lets Have A Nice And Wonderful Day.
Advance Happy New Year

I'm not sure that I can say that there are less shitposting now, because some boards like Bitcoin or Altcoin discussion are still almost impossible to use. But you probably right that market status affect activity on forum. I read stats posted by some users that number of new sign ups on Bitcointalk directly correlate with Bitcoin price. And there are less posts made this year than in same period year ago. Offcourse, these numbers are also affected by Merit requirements for new users.
I also can give one obvious example - it's Bounties board. In past if you had posted thread on that board, it only remain on first page of that board for few minutes, now it stays on first page for 20-25 minutes.

tl;dr, can someone tell point of this thread, because his posts are so long and it's to difficult to focus on reading on Christmas Eve Cheesy

Signature is not responsible for spam.
We have very high ranked members who wear signatures of various projects. Spamming is common with low quality users, regardless of forum rank, signature etc.

The drop in value of the cryptocurrency market initially led to a drop in activity in the forum.
Although there's a lot of projects right now which are worth discussing.

First of all, I strongly disagree that the spamming problem bitcointalk has isn't related to signature campaigns.  I highly doubt we'd have people copy/pasting other people's shitposts if it weren't for the fact that there's money to be made by doing so.  I've never seen that being done on any other forum I've been a part of.  And I also doubt that there would be so many spammy, gargabe, nonsense replies being made in English by members who clearly have no command of the language if it weren't for signature campaigns.

But the problem isn't with the campaigns themselves; it's with the low-quality posters who get accepted into them.  There are indeed some senior members who are complete shitposters (Amph comes to mind), but the low-ranked ones outnumber them by a huge margin from what I can tell.  I don't know if there's any way to quantify my claim, but last I checked Bitcoin/Altcoin Discussion had been overrun by mostly newbie spammers.  My point is that the problem doesn't come mainly from the Hero/Legendary accounts.

As far as OP's point, I'm not sure I agree with it or not but it's an interesting thing to think about.  People definitely become more excited and want to earn as much bitcoin as they can when the price is rising.  I think that may translate into more posts and more spamming being done during bull markets.  It's too bad it doesn't resolve when the price of bitcoin has been battered down to the grass, like it has been recently.  There have been as many shitposts as ever, and I'm sure the sections of the forum I have blocked haven't improved much.  My guess is that they're probably as bad as ever.

That (campaign management) is not really the problem either. The real root is in the incentive model. The incentives currently encourage people to shitpost (in various ways) to make money. It's just simple as that. Loads of the shitposting is in a hidden format. E.g. a drama/opinion threads full of nothing, straws of nuances "sophistically" discussed for hundreds of posts. You can make "contributions" that are actually not interesting to anyone (and nobody reads them anyway). Walls of text, directly from brain to keyboard without any filtering or attempt at coherence. So many posts are just mindless blabbering, stating the obvious or stating some nuances or semi-irrelevant aspects/ideas about the subject.

So shortly, content is highly uninteresting, people just post and post and post but never really carefully read or dig in to the topics (at least in certain boards). Deeper thinking doesn't happen, because moving on to shitpost elsewhere is so much more easier and gets you more money.

Solutions? Change the incentive model, but how?

I wholeheartedly agree because I actively browse the "Bitcoin Discussion" and "Announcements" boards, often checking out what the latest gossip is on Bitcoin or researching what the latest projects are and whatnot. I usually see a lot of meaningless posts spammed containing single sentence responses like, "project will go straight to moon" or "which ico do I throw money at to earn lambo fast?". Enough shit posts like that can instantly ruin a thread or projects legitimacy and potential.
It's quite true that droves of people join when the market is on the up and up. I guess you have to learn to enjoy the few moments of peace while they last, at least until the next bull run, because before you know it, the forum will be flooded again with newbs and spam. As for the solution, modifying the incentive model does seem like the most relevant idea.

bitcoin discussion can definitely be an eyesore. i'm not really sure what the moderation policies are (nor what the ideal solution is). it seems like the endless spam threads are allowed to continue indefinitely. but the strange thing is, i've noticed that newer threads (about bitcoin) with active discussions are often deleted by moderators. i can't figure out why. i don't really understand what moderators are trying to accomplish.

i'd love to bring back the bitcoin discussion of 2015 and 2016 when we used to have great debates about scaling and economic design but the whole situation is pretty discouraging.

I haven't actually noticed a reduction in shitposting,as far as I know things have remained fairly the same way at least for a while now, except probably cos you've been away for a while
The bitcoin discussions board is still in its worse state, likewise the AD, while meta is still mostly filled with ban appeals which means people are still doing the wrong things by stealing others works.

I think the last time we actually saw a visible change was few days/weeks into the new merit enhancement for newbies, the quality of posts increased a lot during that period, but it all seems to have died down slowly

Yeah, it sure does.

Try to have a vacation to relax yourself even just for a bit then after that you'll see some differences from the current time and before hereon this forum.

Members are quite inactive ever since the month of December goes by, and maybe after this year we will be having a half of the total registries from 2018.

I doubt thatfrom happening. And that's quite impossible right now.
