What do people mean when they say bitcoin is in 1994?

As I understand, in 1994 the Internet was still at its infancy. People didn't really know what it was yet, they didn't know what it could be. Does that mean right now we don't know what bitcoin will be used for in the coming years? Do we not know the "killer app"?

I've also seen people online complaining that bitcoin is too hard to use and that it's too confusing. Is this another reason why people compare bitcoin today to the Internet in 1994? I'm a software developer so I might be a little biased, but I don't think it takes a genius to use the blockchain wallet app I have on my phone. What needs to be done to make it more accessible? The only difficult thing I can think of is exchanging fiat for bitcoin.

Bitcoin was developed in 2009. So comparison of Bitcoin in this year to 1994 is a foolish comparison. In the upcoming years, Bitcoin can be used as a second money of the world side by side with fiat currencies in my opinion.

You compare too far, because in 1994 the internet wasn't like it is now. You better compare if Bitcoin was not created in 2009, but 2018 this. Will the price go straight at $ 3800? not. Bitcoin's long journey has made bitcoin a valuable and important asset for some people. so don't be surprised if bitcoin will get stronger in the future.

I would rather bitcoin come later. Bitcoin was born too early for the world today. Many of the whimsy about bitcoin are just at the stage of envisioning, and there is currently no ability to complete them.

Year 1994 The Capacity of all features of computer is too much lower than the current uses start from the Hardware and software. the comparison between the Computer in 1994 and the bitcoin now is very too far because computer during that time is very limited almost all big country can afford during that time while bitcoin now is available anytime it depends upon the people how they adopt it and use it but all in all it is available anytime anywhere like for example at home through our gadget; Cellphone and computer.

The idea of bitcoin was found by satoahi in 2009 so it is far away from 1994,but maybe the idea just developed since from it because blockchain technology was found in 1991 but keft unused until satoshi used it for bitcoin transaction.

In the 1990s, the internet was barely used. Like you said, in its infancy. So, people make the comparison to convey the idea that Bitcoin is in its infancy but will eventually become ubiquitous and part of our everyday lives -- just like the internet is today. They mean that Bitcoin will go from obscure to ubiquitous in a relatively short period of time (decades).

I don't think we need a "killer app" -- sound money is reason enough for mass adoption. We just need time to run its course.

Unlike now bitcoin was really pure developed using combination of blockchain technology for fast funds transactions.

A lot needs to develop in it; reason why people hasn't realized its full potential yet, mainly the reason why it's still undervalued nowadays. Yes, we are all just getting alone with the Crypto Currency Digital Transaction as getting the attention globally, yes, the crypto currency market still in the infancy stage, not all are prevy on its usabilty. The only common notion we can have are, people either have a huge loses or huge gain on their profits, during the spike of Bitcoin price on last quarter of 2017, everyone got their attention, buying coins is on the spike...yet, the decline have brought prostration, some even got so depressed. The reason almost all of the buyers or investors have not learn the basic of invest.the risk after such investment, how to handle the profits? One should learn the history, learn the process, a lot more are coming before we can say that crypto is accepted by global public.

It could be about bitcoin's similarity to the internet on 1994. It's not much, only a few organizations are using it and not really targeting consumers head-on but it went on to become a bigger entity until everyone knows it and use it. I agree that the avenues in which bitcoin is traversing right now is very limited, but as people realize the need for the said tech, it would boom like the internet, and would be integrated into things and places whenever and wherever possible.

It could be the internet or the email comparison in the 1990's. During that time no one really knows for sure how to used it, similar to what bitcoin or cryptocurrency. Adoption curve is very slow, but once people discover and learn that this technology has a lot of advantages, it has quickly grew at a much larger scale.

Not really, you can't tell when it'll happen because a lot of things change very quickly. Who knows it might take less than twenty years.

Those people who complain about Bitcoin being hard are mostly new users. Once they get the hang of Bitcoin they'll know that it won't be hard to use.

Maybe it is one of the reason why it's compared to the internet in 1994 because you mentioned it's still new and not everyone has access to it.

It's only hard at first because you have to set up your wallet like putting a strong password and storing the see which is slightly time consuming but after that it should be easy to use. Also with several wallets to choose from new users shouldn't be having a hard time using Bitcoin tbh.

To make it more accessible we need people to learn about it. People are blind and deaf. They wake up in the morning and go to work where they spend all day doing repetitive tasks to later go back home, eat dinner, watch a movie and go to bed. If they're lucky there's sex in that last part.
How do you approach general public with a novelty? You have to do some advertising and it's not being done for Bitcoin.

but understanding the intricate details of how the internet actually works (DNS, ISP, IP, HTTP, FTP, SMTP) is the difference

people dont just want a flashy webpage that asks for credit cards. they actually want to know that its safe to shop online in the 1990's. they are worried about putting their funds/personal information out there onto the internet so they want to know about what http is as oppose to https and what makes https so much better.

same with bitcoin using a service is easy, but knowing if its secure.. they will want to know a little more then just the basics

But you don't need to know about Internet protocols to use the Internet. Realistically, most people don't need to know more than how to use a browser, Google, and their favourite websites. I doubt most people will download and install bitcoin core so they can use bitcoin. Most of my friends didn't even notice when sites went from HTTP to HTTPS, I've revealed to at least 10 people in the last few months that there's a difference between HTTP and HTTPS.
