Ripple is always a strong contender for second spot with many international supporting it, it can easily claim back its former position. Ethereum can maintain or strengthened its position with continuous dapps projects and investors' support to beef up its price and market capitalization. I think this two altcoins will continue their tug of war until one of them will give up or lose a significant amount of capitalization in the future.

You are right but there's a little excitement if we compared our favorite coins, of course I also believe XRP is good but I have heavily invested on ETH and it's where I put my trust. When the market will growth, they will both grow but I believe ETH will take the lead as I observed, it's very affected and bearish, so it will also have a big effect in bullish.

It's very casual to see them change and replace their positions so it's not a big deal. After the upgrade, we might see it again that Ethereum will go back to that spot and take it away again from XRP. But if it didn't happen then XRP would lead the spot for few more weeks/months.

I hope that you are right, ETH has not maintained its spot and that only shows it's not strong yet.
The hard fork was rescheduled but the price has not drop that hard, big thanks to the announcement, for quite a while, price has rise a bit.
If I understand it right, there is no definite date yet when the hard fork will take place, but it's postpone based on the link source below.

I wouldn't be too confident and staying at number 2. I do prefer to see ethereum above the centralised ripple but i remember the last ripple pump in which it doubled in a matter of weeks and flew past ethereum. Hopefully this constatinople fork will deliver better TPS and bring more useful dapps to the platform
