How to avoid Dump after listing

From the little experience i got, i have always seen it as a normal trend for a coin to dump below ICO price after then it can pick up and stabilise ,but on the other hand listing on an exchange with large volume will to some extent control the amount of dump. I have never participated in a private sale, but can investors gain profits at their dumped prices as well? And the lack of interest investing in ICO may cause situations that will not reach the softcap?
