Looks like the kidnappers are a serious outfit. Randsom wanted in Monero
not the usual hackers favourite if Bitcoin.

I think we going to see more of these kidnappings and abductions in the future

But meaningless connections aside, she was abducted on October 31st, that's 2 and a half months ago... She's still missing... That means he didn't pay the ransom and probably won't. Sounds kind of like a William Randolph Hearst type.

After reading this article some things are pretty clear :

• The kidnappers are not Norwegians or they want the police to think that.
• They are incapable of demonstrating that the victim is still alive.
• Police have no clues and decide to involve the public in this case.
• There is a high probability that Mrs. Hagen is not alive anymore.
• This is an amateur job.

9 mil is not such  a big money , the guy should pay up as soon as he recieves the address
Monero is not completely untraceable, but it is much safer for criminals than bitcoins
and yeas, as bad as it sounds, it is advantageous for Monero and its popularisation as the truly anonymous coin

Monero isn't complete anonymous though, that's been known for some time. There's no doubt in my mind the kidnappers will eventually be caught. I've been around since Monero's beginnings -- it was always propelled by slimebags whose goal was to make a slimebaggy coin to be used by other slimebags. If at least 1 in 4 XMR transactions are used for illegal purposes you can bet authorities will be paying extra special attention to those who buy and use it.

That article is unconvincing and has not demonstrated 1 example on how to trace transactions in Monero. However if this is true then this might become Monero's big test hehehe.

In any case, the kidnappers of 5Dimes owner were arrested after police in Costa Rica linked a bitcoin address with an ip address.



Costa Rican authorities are hoping the arrest of 12 people allegedly involved in the September kidnapping of the owner of an internet sports betting site will lead to the missing U.S. citizen.

Director of Costa Rica's Judicial Investigation Body Walter Espinoza said Friday that the arrests were made in Costa Rica and Spain.

Sean William Creighton had lived in Costa Rica for several years before he was kidnapped Sept. 24 near San Jose. Espinoza says the kidnappers used a rented pickup and worked with a pair of transit police officers to abduct Creighton.

Espinoza says Creighton's family paid a nearly $1 million ransom via the electronic currency Bitcoin. Investigators were able to link access to an electronic wallet to a computer address in Costa Rica.

Classed by who? I reckon that would be a mistake. Can Chipmixer officially be classed as a crime service? The answer is no.

Also, the US dollar and the Euro are the most used currencies by criminals. They should officially class them as criminal currencies first hehehe.

I think funding some videos or articles is very different from staging, or even worse, committing a kidnapping/murder as a false flag. Governments fund talking people all the time, and often they even do it openly. But false flags are very-very rare, and we shouldn't think about them as a viable theory unless there's a good amount of evidence.

We have seen it already and its really plausible for exchangers to go into such decision on delisting XMR. If these kind of scenarios would become rampant then we cant really say that these acts cant be done.
